Footballer Xuan Son's Wife: Rents a House to Take Care of Her Husband, Celebrates the Most Special Lunar New Year

After feeding her two sons, Marcele Seippel - wife of football player Nguyen Xuan Son - quickly had a simple breakfast to visit her husband.

Before leaving her rented apartment in Hanoi , Marcele quickly put on her makeup, grabbed her bag, and walked to the hospital not far from where she lived.

"I keep the habit of wearing makeup every day because I want my husband to see a fresh face. When he sees his beautiful wife, Xuan Son will feel more secure," Marcele shared with Dan Tri reporter.

Ten minutes later, Marcele opened the door to the hospital room. Seeing his wife walking in, the Vietnamese national team player smiled brightly. She gently asked about her husband's health and looked at his leg, which was still bandaged after surgery. Her husband seemed excited and no longer complained of pain, making Marcele somewhat relieved.

Revealing about Xuan Son in the hospital room

The unexpected injury disrupted Marcele's family's plans after the 2024 ASEAN Cup.

She revealed that the couple hopes that after returning from Thailand, they will spend time playing with their children, having a reunion meal, watching movies at home... Currently, the couple has to put aside their simple wishes to focus on treating Xuan Son.

To conveniently take care of her husband, Xuan Son's wife rented a 3-bedroom apartment not far from the hospital.

"For now, I'm temporarily renting an apartment for a month, and depending on my husband's situation, I'll continue to extend the contract. I estimate that the whole family may have to stay in Hanoi for 6-7 months," Marcele confided.

These days, Marcele’s usual route is from the apartment to the hospital. After taking care of her husband, she takes the time to feed her children and then returns to Xuan Son for treatment. The hospital staff are very dedicated, but she wants to accompany her husband so that he can feel secure during the recovery process.

Six years ago, while playing for a football team in Japan, Xuan Son suffered a toe injury and it took him half a year to recover. During that difficult time, Marcele was his strong support. She took care of the cooking and helped her husband learn to walk.

"This time, I have experience taking care of my husband while he was injured. According to the doctor, he will undergo a rehabilitation training process, it may take 6 months to return to the field and about 8 months to compete in top football. My husband is looking forward to recovering well to contribute to Vietnamese football," the wife of the Vietnamese national team striker confided.

Every day, Xuan Son follows exercises and lifts weights on the spot. However, this is only the first step in a long recovery process.

In the initial stage, doctors will use equipment such as electric pain-relieving stimulators, cold compresses according to European standards, training support robots, professional static and dynamic balance systems, and biofeedback muscle training systems from Germany...

According to Xuan Son's wife, he must follow the nutritional regimen given by the doctor. In particular, the Nam Dinh Club player is not allowed to eat sweets to control his weight.

"My husband and I miss Nam Dinh very much, especially the food there. I was surprised when the owner of the banana cake shop where our family often buys banana cakes announced that Xuan Son will be free for 1 year. Maybe he will have to temporarily give up this cake for a while," Marcele said with a smile.

It is known that player Xuan Son is being treated in the VIP inpatient room at Vinmec Times City Hospital. The treatment room is connected to the living room with a desk, has a sofa in the living room, 2 TVs for the patient and family, a wardrobe and other items.

The hospital bed has a modern nurse call system, allowing two-way communication. Patients and their families will have 3 meals a day. For player Xuan Son, the menu will be based on portions calculated in great detail by a nutritionist.

After 2 weeks in hospital, Xuan Son has regained his cheerful mood. His messy hair from the ASEAN Cup has been transformed into a neat braid. Many people looking at the photo were a bit surprised because it was strange.

After completing his homework, Xuan Son often spends time watching TV and reading comics.

"He likes reading Japanese manga Naruto. Although Xuan Son is already a father of two children, his personality is still very innocent and youthful," Marcele confided.

Burst into tears when seeing her husband in tears

These days, Xuan Son has free time, playing with his two adorable sons. Two weeks ago, the whole family lived in a state of anxiety when the player had to leave the final match in an unexpected way.

On the afternoon of January 5, before the final match between Vietnam and Thailand began, Marcele and her parents were anxiously waiting to witness the moment her husband lifted the championship trophy amid the cheers of the audience. However, Xuan Son's sudden injury left the whole family restless.

In the 38th minute, after the Brazilian player tried to stretch to pass the ball to his teammate, Xuan Son suddenly lay down on the field, holding his leg, signaling that he needed a stretcher. Seeing her husband being taken to the ambulance, she panicked and tried to call Xuan Son.

"My husband informed me that he was seriously injured over the phone. I quickly called a taxi to the hospital about 7 minutes away from the match. When I got to the hospital, I saw him lying on a stretcher, constantly screaming in pain and crying a lot. Unable to contain my emotions, I also burst into tears," Marcele shared.

Suppressing the pain, the Vietnamese player held his phone to watch the final match until the last minute. At the end of the final match, while his teammates were celebrating, Xuan Son cheered at the hospital even though he couldn't dance.

That night was an unforgettable memory in Marcele's life. She stayed up all night by her husband's bedside, holding his hand, encouraging him to think positively: "Everything will be fine."

From the time her husband was hospitalized until she returned to Vietnam, the girl born in 1999 did not sleep a single minute for 24 hours.

"Thinking about my husband's condition, I forgot to eat and sleep. After the plane landed at Noi Bai, the whole family rushed straight to the hospital to see Xuan Son before he went into the operating room," Marcele shared.

The moment of reunion at the hospital, after giving Xuan Son a hug of encouragement, the whole family burst into tears because of pent-up emotions. No one thought he would end the tournament with such a serious injury.

While her husband was in the operating room, Marcele was restless, praying that the surgery would go smoothly. When the doctor came out and announced that the surgery was successful, the whole family breathed a sigh of relief.

The attention and affection of fans made Xuan Son's family surprised and touched.

Marcele knew that some viewers wanted to raise money to invite the Brazilian striker's parents to Vietnam to visit their son. The couple didn't know what to say other than "thank you".

"Xuan Son's mother has diabetes so she cannot travel a long distance from Brazil to Vietnam. Every day, the whole family still talks to my husband on the phone. When they first heard the news, Xuan Son's parents and siblings were worried. Now everyone is more at ease knowing that he is being taken care of very well and receiving a lot of love from the audience," Marcele confided.

Special Tet occasion

For Xuan Son's family, this year's Lunar New Year will be more special than previous years.

Marcele revealed: "Xuan Son will be in hospital for another 2 weeks, then return to the apartment I am renting and go to the hospital for outpatient rehabilitation until he returns to the pitch."

In previous years, Tet was the time for the whole family to rest, stroll around the streets of Nam Dinh to feel the bustling atmosphere. This year, Xuan Son's family can celebrate Tet in Hanoi. During the Tet holiday, he must follow the diet and exercise regimen prescribed by the doctor.

This year is the 6th year Marcele and her husband have celebrated Lunar New Year in Vietnam. She remembers that the first time she came to Vietnam was also during the Lunar New Year.

"The first time I celebrated Tet here, I felt strange because a lot of shops were closed, the usually crowded streets became quiet. After searching for information online and getting some explanations from friends, I knew that this was a familiar scene during the Vietnamese Tet holiday," Marcele shared.

The Brazilian girl enjoyed the bustling atmosphere, the image of women wearing traditional ao dai, families decorating their houses, the streets filled with flowers... In particular, Xuan Son's wife was impressed with the way Vietnamese people wrap square banh chung from dong leaves and ingredients such as rice, mung beans, and pork.

"My son was taught how to make banh chung by his teachers at kindergarten. The children loved it and even brought it home to show their mother. My family has tried banh chung, it's delicious and easy to eat," Marcele confided.

Every few days, Marcele takes her two sons to the hospital to visit their father. The children probably do not fully understand the challenges that soccer player Xuan Son is trying to overcome.

However, every time she sees her children babbling and talking to their father at his hospital bedside, she feels grateful for the peaceful moments in her family's second homeland.
