Disillusioned by trusting too much in AI

Artificial intelligence tools are being "deified" causing users to have high expectations, but the reality is not as expected.

In early July 2025, Google officially launched Veo 3 - an artificial intelligence (AI) video creation tool to countries where the Gemini application is operating, including Vietnam. Users can use Veo 3 through the Google AI Pro package for VND 489,000/month.

Costly but ineffective

Although interest in Veo 3 has decreased compared to when it was first launched, there are still a large number of people using this video creation tool because of its ability to turn text and images into vivid, context-appropriate videos. Short videos created by Veo 3 often attract a large number of views on social media platforms such as Facebook, TikTok and YouTube, and can even reach millions of views.

The Veo 3 fever spread when many personal accounts claiming to be "AI experts" continuously promoted and sold online courses using this tool with fees from 99,000 VND/course lasting only 1-3 sessions. "No need for a studio, no need for a marketing team, you can still create million-view videos, attracting 10 times more customers than usual" - MQ account on Facebook posted an article with a "winged" promise.

Some "AI teachers" online also show that you don't need to buy a Veo 3 account, just use Canva Pro - an application that can design images, videos, presentations... - to create unlimited Veo 3 videos, costing only from 99,000 VND/month. However, according to research, Canva Pro actually only allows you to create up to 5 videos/month.

Believing in the beautiful advertisements about the effects of AI, many people have spent millions of dong to buy accounts to use a series of tools, and then "disillusioned". Ms. Hoang Thi Lan Phuong (living in Ho Chi Minh City) once attended an online course on Veo 3, costing 99,000 VND, with the hope of creating short videos that could attract millions of views to promote her point of sale, thereby increasing sales. However, after the course, she was very disappointed when Veo 3 could only create videos up to 8 seconds long, when combining short videos together, it felt not smooth, unable to convey the desired message. "AI experts on the Veo 3 advertising network help save time and marketing costs, but in reality, it is quite expensive and the results are not as expected" - Ms. Phuong commented.

Mr. Nguyen Thanh Tam (living in Hanoi ) spent nearly 2 million VND to buy AI applications for content creation such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Piktochart, Canva... and was also disappointed by the real capabilities of these tools. "Piktochart is advertised as being able to turn data into graphics in just one minute with extremely eye-catching images, but the actual product cannot be used. This AI can only create graphics with small data, and if the data is longer, it must be edited manually, which is very time-consuming; the interface is also not beautiful" - Mr. Tam said.

"Playing" AI is like... playing with knives

Besides using AI for work, there are many cases of "playing with AI" for entertainment purposes, "following trends". However, using AI carelessly, excessively, and out of control... can lead to unpredictable consequences.

Recently, on social networks, the trend of using AI to create realistic images to attract comments and interactions has spread. Notably, many quite sensitive, inappropriate or false images have been posted and attracted a large number of views, such as images of traffic police writing fines, police forces performing their duties... These seemingly entertaining images actually pose many legal risks.

According to current legal regulations, the act of using AI technology to create fake, untrue images... if it causes misunderstanding in a negative direction, it can be considered as distortion, slander, and insulting the reputation of others. This act can be fined 20-30 million VND, forced to remove confusing, untrue information... If it causes more serious consequences, this act can also be prosecuted for criminal liability.

Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Thanh Hien, founder of New Generation Artificial Intelligence Joint Stock Company (New AI), emphasized that to use AI effectively, users need to clearly understand the purpose and operation of the tool they choose. More importantly, it is necessary to determine whether the tool is truly suitable for the job and actual needs to avoid wasting time and money.

With the strong development of AI applications such as Veo 3, Google's NoteBookLM or OpenAI's ChatGPT, some people who have not mastered the tools have rushed to open money-making courses, leading to incorrect teaching and giving incorrect commands, making AI unable to produce the required results.

Mr. Hien compared this situation to those who teach Microsoft Word and Excel without understanding the software, only creating incorrect results, making learners lose faith in technology. This not only affects learners but also negatively impacts the sustainable development of the AI market in Vietnam. "AI develops very quickly, a command today may be outdated tomorrow. Therefore, learners need to find lecturers with in-depth knowledge to use AI effectively" - Mr. Hien shared.

AI is only powerful when used properly

Mr. Le Hong Duc, founder of OneAds Digital Company Limited, commented that users rushing to buy AI without basic knowledge leads to the fact that after a few experiences that do not meet expectations, many people quickly give up because they feel "AI is not effective".

He also warned about the trend of using shared accounts, or learning from courses by self-proclaimed experts, which will cause users to operate incorrectly, misunderstand and get wrong results. According to him, if AI is considered a content production tool, users must act as directors - have clear ideas, specific goals and be ready to control the quality of output. "AI cannot replace human thinking, it only exerts its power when properly guided" - Mr. Duc recommended.
