(CTO) - On the final day of competition on May 16 at the 32nd SEA Games, Can Tho female Judo athlete Duong Thanh Thanh contributed greatly to winning the eighth gold medal for the Vietnamese Judo delegation. That was the gold medal in the mixed team event, said Mr. Nguyen Anh Tuan, Deputy Director of the Can Tho City Sports Training and Competition Center.

In this event, Vietnamese martial artists including Nguyen Thi Bich Ngoc, Nguyen Ngoc Diem Phuong, Le Huynh Tuong Vi, Duong Thanh Thanh, Hoang Bui Thuy Linh, Nguyen Hai Ba Truong, Hoang Phuc, Le Anh Tai, Bui Thien Hoang, Le Dinh Vu, Nguyen Chau Hoang Lan, entered the final to compete for the gold medal with Thai martial artists.
After a 3-3 draw in the 6 main rounds, the two teams randomly drew lots to choose a pair for the deciding match. Duong Thanh Thanh, a 19-year-old martial artist participating in the SEA Games for the first time, had a rematch with the naturalized martial artist of Japanese origin Oeda (who had defeated Thanh Thanh in the main round). However, Thanh Thanh excelled in this rematch to bring home the gold medal for the Vietnamese Judo delegation.
At the end of the Judo competition, the Vietnamese team led with 8 gold medals.
Previously, two Can Tho beach volleyball athletes participating in the 32nd SEA Games also won bronze medals in the women's team event.
At this year's SEA Games, Can Tho had 14 athletes participating, achieving 3 gold medals, 1 silver medal, and 1 bronze medal.
