Vietnamese fighter faces formidable Brazilian opponent.

The MMA Lion Championship 17 will return to Hanoi at the Tay Ho Gymnasium with exciting matches between Vietnamese and international fighters.

Felype Morais de Souza and Tran Ngoc Luong will compete against each other at the LION Championship 17 event.

On September 7th, the MMA Lion Championship 17 will take place with 7 exciting fights, the highlight being the showdown between Harry John Smith, nicknamed "the teacher," and Pham Thanh Ngan in the 65 kg weight class.

The two had previously faced each other at the Lion Championship 6, with the Scottish fighter emerging victorious. Following that, Harry Smith secured another win against Tran Viet Anh, placing him 11th in the 65 kg category.

However, during John Smith's one-year hiatus from competition, Thanh Ngan made significant progress, with three consecutive victories in subsequent Lion Championship events.

In addition, another highly anticipated matchup is the showdown between Brazilian fighter Felype Morais de Souza and Tran Ngoc Luong, the current world number 1 in the 60 kg weight class.

Following his victory over Bui Truong Sinh at the LION Championship 12, Tran Ngoc Luong is a strong contender in the 61 kg weight class. Morais de Souza currently lives and trains in Thailand under the guidance of coach George Hickman at the renowned Bangtao Muay Thai & MMA gym.

The fighter, born in 1998, possesses a strong Muay Thai background and has competed for the championship at Muay Thai Super Champ - one of the most famous fighting arenas in Thailand.

Another notable matchup was the clash between Dam Vu Quoc Cong and Nguyen Huu Han. At LION Championship 15, Quoc Cong brought the essence of Wing Chun to the MMA ring to defeat Nguyen Tuan Anh in the second round.

In his second appearance at the tournament, Quoc Cong will face a challenge that is predicted to be much more difficult. Nguyen Huu Han is the martial artist who won the gold medal in Wushu Sanda at the 2022 National Sports Games. Also at the LION Championship 15, the martial artist born in 1999 needed less than two rounds to defeat Le Van Trinh.
