The most special rescue did not take place in the emergency room, but on the border between despair and revival. A 15-year-old girl, from the brink of loneliness, was pulled back by the arms of compassion.
On the afternoon of July 14, 2025, both Bach Mai Hospital and the community experienced breathtaking moments. The image of a fragile, lonely 15-year-old girl on the rooftop of the building.
The functional forces including: Fire Prevention and Rescue Police Team of Area 10, ward police, doctors, hospital security staff... coordinated smoothly and patiently to find a way to approach and rescue the child.
In the decisive moment, humanity truly shone through the patience of the rescue team in the rain for 3 hours and their heart-touching words of persuasion.
Touch my heart pull me back from the brink
From the perspective of medical staff, doctors and nurses understood that the child's act of climbing to the rooftop that day was not simply a momentary impulse. It was a silent cry for help, the culmination of a series of accumulated lack of love, care and an uncertain future.

The physical pain is visible, but the emotional wound that has been burning inside me for a long time is what makes me most desperate to find a way to end it.
The quick, responsible response and above all, the love and deep sympathy of the Kim Lien Ward Police, the Fire Prevention and Rescue Police Team of Region 10; doctors, nurses, and Bach Mai staff... were clearly guided by the urgent direction of Associate Professor, Dr. Dao Xuan Co, Party Committee Secretary and Hospital Director: "Let the helping hands become the guiding bridge! Saving lives is urgent, but touching the child's heart is what keeps the child in life. The child must feel: Everyone is here for the child's future, not because of discipline or coercion".
It was that spirit that permeated every action, helping pull me back from the brink.
When the doctor is always a gentle mother
Dr. Doan Thu Tra, Chairwoman of the Bach Mai Hospital Trade Union, was one of the first people to approach the child as soon as he was safely brought to the ground.
"As a doctor, I don't look at you as an "emergency" or a "special case", but look at you with all the empathy of a mother.
As a mother, I understand when a child feels abandoned, has no place to return to, no home with a father's smile, no mother's love... self-pity and despair can extinguish all will to live.
So, I convinced my child with all the love and heart of a mother, the heart of a doctor to make him understand that he is not alone, to let him know that this life has many good things ahead", Dr. Doan Thu Tra, choked up, shared.
Those words penetrated the shell of callousness, touched the girl's trembling heart, made her believe, rely on and choose life. At that moment of joy, everyone present understood that they had not only saved a life, but also held on to a future.
Associate Professor, Dr. Dao Xuan Co shared: "As a health manager, I understand that this is not just a mission to save lives - but a complex social security problem that needs to be solved at its root.
As a physician who has spent 30 years with patients on the brink of death, I know that mental wounds are much harder to heal than physical pain. But above all, as a father, my heart aches when I see the despair in my child’s eyes.
We must act with the cool head of a leader, but with the warm heart of a father and mother - where there is no distance between the patient and the child they need to protect."

Responsible handover - sparking a bright future
On the afternoon of July 15, 2025, in a humane atmosphere, representatives of Bach Mai Hospital, Kim Lien Ward Police, and the Ward People's Committee handed over the child to the Social Work Center and the Hanoi Children's Support Fund.
Bach Mai commits to long-term companionship, monitoring and connecting so that you can study, have a full and happy life, and make up for the disadvantages of the past years.
