Using durian peels and other seemingly “wasteful” things from farmers to process into raw materials for raising earthworms. Then take these useful creatures and process them into fish feed and organic fertilizer under the brand name “MT Tay Nguyen Xanh”.
This multi-beneficial cycle, which both provides livelihoods for people and protects the living environment, is a good model that needs to be spread.
Recently, after hearing some agricultural experts and many cooperatives - customers using this organic fertilizer introduce it, we went to Ea Knop commune (Dak Lak province) to meet Mr. Pham Ngoc Ho, an agricultural engineer, technician, who directly works with many local farmers to make MT Tay Nguyen Xanh.
Taking us to visit the hectare-wide solar power field, under the roof of the solar panels is this famous earthworm breeding and production model, engineer Pham Ngoc Ho said: "You guys came here and didn't smell any unpleasant smell, right? That's because we have treated the microorganisms quite well, using a special method to protect the environment." Then he pointed to the cells and beds covered with tarpaulin to keep them moist, which are the earthworm cages. "We have had to research and experiment for many years. At first it was very difficult and there were failures. Now we are at ease," gently dipping into the mixed organic biological layer, Mr. Ho had a handful of healthy, wriggling earthworms that were about to be harvested.
According to engineer Ho's analysis, MT Tay Nguyen Xanh organic fertilizer is produced from completely natural input materials. Earthworms are raised from agricultural waste, mostly durian peels. Earthworm manure can be used for most crops, from vegetables, ornamental plants to industrial plants such as coffee, cocoa and tea. It can be applied directly to the soil or used as a soil conditioner.
Studies have also shown that vermicompost, also known as vermicompost, is produced from the natural organic decomposition of materials such as animal manure, agricultural waste and other organic waste by the activity of earthworms (Eisenia fetida). Earthworms digest organic matter and excrete a very nutritious fertilizer, containing all the necessary substances for plants such as nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P) and potassium (K), along with other micronutrients. Not only that, vermicompost also provides natural enzymes and hormones to help plants grow strong and healthy, helping to improve soil structure, increase water retention and aeration, making plants able to absorb nutrients effectively, significantly increasing productivity.
Directly witnessing the vermicompost production process and surveying the experiences of gardeners who have used this fertilizer, Dr. Ha Phuc Mich - Chairman of the Vietnam Organic Agriculture Association highly appreciated vermicompost not only as an environmentally friendly product but also as an effective solution for sustainable organic agriculture. With low cost, the application of this fertilizer in cultivation not only brings economic benefits to farmers but also contributes to protecting and improving the sustainable living environment.
In addition to researching, applying and successfully producing MT Tay Nguyen Xanh organic fertilizer, according to Mr. Nguyen Tien Khoi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Minh Tuyet One Member Co., Ltd. ( Dak Lak ), "we have now planted thousands of durian trees, using entirely organic fertilizers, the trees are healthy, growing well and are about to be harvested. We are also implementing pig and fish farming in cages, to create a closed economic cycle, beneficial to the environment, creating green jobs for many local workers".
