VTV is preparing to bring the football feast closer to viewers.

In addition to broadcasting all the matches of the biggest football event on the planet, VTV also aims to build a multi-platform content ecosystem with dozens of accompanying programs, thousands of digital products, and a large team of commentators and reporters to bring the World Cup closer to millions of Vietnamese viewers.

Building a multi - platform " World Cup ecosystem "

Journalist Phan Ngoc Tien, Director of VTV Sports Television Center, said: “The unit has been preparing for this special campaign since very early on. We determined that this is a long-term campaign, requiring very early preparation, from building the program format, designing the studio, selecting personnel to the communication plan.”

According to Mr. Tien, the biggest challenge of the 2026 World Cup lies not only in the significantly increased number of matches but also in the fact that the matches will take place at 17 different times. However, this also presents an opportunity for VTV to reach viewers at various times throughout the day, instead of focusing only on late-night matches like in previous World Cups.

To meet that demand, in addition to live coverage of matches, the Sports Television Center will collaborate with production units to produce 92 pre-match, mid-match, and post-match commentary programs on VTV2, VTV3, VTV6, VTV7, VTV10 channels, and a series of television broadcasts along with thousands of content items for digital platforms.

On digital platforms, VTV is developing more independent programs such as FIFA World Cup Roundtable, FIFA World Cup Now, along with interactive online content, behind-the-scenes footage, and coverage of life outside the tournament. "The goal is to create a multi-platform World Cup ecosystem so that viewers can access all information from various perspectives on any device," shared Mr. Phan Ngoc Tien.

Beyond simply broadcasting matches, VTV is also researching the application of big data, tactical graphics, and artificial intelligence (AI) in its content production process. In-depth statistics, tactical analysis, and pre-match, in-match, and post-match imagery will be fully utilized to provide viewers with a fresh and engaging experience.

Simultaneously, teams of reporters will be sent to the United States, Canada, and Mexico to cover the event live. Another highlight expected to give VTV's coverage of the 2026 World Cup a unique flavor is the increased emphasis on cultural content, tourism , and the lives of fans in the host cities. These will be behind-the-scenes stories that will give viewers a more multifaceted perspective on the biggest football event on the planet.

Bringing together top commentators .

Besides the program content, the commentary team has always been one of the factors that make the World Cup on VTV so appealing. Notably, veteran commentators Quang Huy and Quang Tung have returned. The appearance of these two commentators is seen as a "ticket back to childhood" for those who stayed up all night watching the World Cup on television many years ago.

Alongside Quang Tung are familiar faces who have made their mark in many World Cups, such as Viet Khue, Khac Cuong, Tieu Huyen, and Tri Vien. Quang Huy is expected to continue providing insightful analysis and experienced tactical perspectives. Meanwhile, Anh Quan stands out with his storytelling ability, connecting the match with cultural insights and aspects of world football. Viet Khue remains highly regarded for his professional analysis, while Khac Cuong and Tri Vien bring youthful, vibrant, and emotional energy.

Besides familiar names, the 2026 World Cup also features many beloved commentators and presenters such as Hai Thanh, Hai Linh, Van Manh, Quoc Viet, Nhung Anh... Notably, VTV has relaunched its community-based commentator selection program. This model has been highly successful in discovering many outstanding figures in Vietnamese sports television over the past two decades.

According to Mr. Phan Ngoc Tien, the 2026 World Cup is not only the biggest football tournament in history but also an opportunity for the VTV Sports Television Center to affirm its content production capabilities in a new phase of development.

Notably, since the beginning of April this year, the Sports Department has officially transformed into the Sports Television Center. This change is not simply an organizational shift but also reflects Vietnam Television's determination to make sports one of its key content areas. "We expect the FIFA World Cup 2026 to be a milestone affirming the new identity and strength of the VTV Sports Television Center in the hearts of viewers," Mr. Phan Ngoc Tien expressed.

With comprehensive preparation in technology, personnel, content, and broadcasting infrastructure, VTV is aiming not only to bring the 2026 World Cup to Vietnamese audiences but also to provide a modern, multi-dimensional, and emotionally rich football viewing experience. When the ball starts rolling on the pitches in North America, millions of fans in Vietnam will have the opportunity to follow the biggest football event on the planet in a more accessible and convenient way than ever before.
