On the evening of October 3, the Investigation Police Agency, Dak Lak Provincial Police, announced that it had prosecuted and temporarily detained Nguyen Dang Giap, Director of the Central Highlands General Hospital.
Mr. Nguyen Dang Giap was arrested to investigate the crime of "Lack of responsibility causing serious consequences" stipulated in Article 360 of the Penal Code, related to the case of a laser machine that broke down for years but still crushed stones for hundreds of patients.
Regarding the case, previously on September 22, the Investigation Police Agency , Dak Lak Provincial Police prosecuted and temporarily detained Nguyen Ngoc Hoang, born in 1977, Head of the Department of Nephrology and Urology, and Bui Ngoc Duc, born in 1974, Head of the Department of Surgery and Anesthesia and Resuscitation, Central Highlands General Hospital, for the crime of "Taking advantage of position and power in performing official duties".
According to the initial investigation, from March 28, 2024 to May 15, 2024 and from May 28, 2024 to December 31, 2024, at the Central Highlands General Hospital, the laser lithotripsy machine was broken and could not be used, but Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Hoang and Bui Ngoc Duc still performed the endoscopic lithotripsy procedure against regulations.
Through investigation, the Investigation Agency has determined that over 255 medical records have undergone laser techniques, of which 235 records are covered by health insurance and the Dak Lak Provincial Social Insurance paid more than 273 million VND, with the patient co-paying more than 33 million VND; 20 records are not covered by health insurance, with the patient paying more than 25 million VND. In addition, the hospital has paid for the surgery and procedure in 255 records for more than 60 million VND.
The defendants ' actions have caused a loss of more than VND273 million to the health insurance fund and more than VND59 million to the hospital's property, seriously affecting the reputation of the Central Highlands General Hospital, the rights and health of patients, and causing negative reactions in public opinion.
Previously, the Standing Committee of the Central Steering Committee on anti-corruption, waste and negativity agreed to put the case of "Abusing position and power in performing official duties" at the Central Highlands General Hospital under the supervision and direction of the Steering Committee.
Currently, the case is being further investigated by the Investigation Police Agency, Dak Lak Provincial Police, to clarify the actions of the individuals involved.
