On June 21, authorities in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, northern China, officially announced the end of the search and rescue operation for 47 people missing in the mine collapse in Ming Alashan town in mid-February and confirmed that all of them were dead.
Thus, the total number of victims killed in this mining disaster is 53 people.
According to China's state broadcaster CCTV, the incident occurred at around 1 p.m. on February 22 at an open-pit mine managed by Xinjing Coal Company, killing six people and leaving 47 missing.
Nearly 1,000 people and many vehicles and machines were mobilized to participate in the search and rescue campaign.
