Increase the area of high-quality rice cultivation to enhance the value of agricultural products.

2026 will be the first year of implementing the socio-economic development plan targets for the 2025-2030 term. Local authorities will have mechanisms and policies to encourage and accelerate the application of science and technology and technical advancements in production. However, the 2026 spring crop production is predicted to face many difficulties as it will take place under conditions where temperatures are 0.5-1 degrees Celsius lower than the average for the same period in previous years; severe cold spells will appear from the second half of December 2025 and continue strongly in January-February 2026, coinciding with the time for seedling preparation and planting, affecting production progress and posing a potential risk of damage.

In addition, crop pests will develop in a complex and unpredictable manner, with some areas potentially experiencing severe damage, affecting growth, yield, and product quality...

Based on forecasts of production conditions and set targets, Nghe An province directed the development of plans, arranging crop structures, varieties, and planting seasons appropriately, suitable to the specific conditions of each region. It strengthened the application of science and technology, technical advancements, and safe production processes such as VietGAP and organic farming. In particular, it increased the area of high-quality rice to gradually build brands, ensure product traceability, and enhance the value of the province's agricultural products.

With the goal of achieving a food production output of approximately 1.2 million tons in 2026, including an estimated 75,175 tons in the 2025 winter crop and 708,850 tons in the 2026 spring crop (because the 2026 summer-autumn crop will always face many difficulties regarding water resources, storms, late-season floods, pests and diseases, and low yields), the province aims to cultivate 90,500 hectares (44,600 hectares of hybrid rice and 45,900 hectares of purebred rice), 19,000 hectares of corn, 7,000 hectares of peanuts, 13,000 hectares of vegetables, and 940 hectares of sweet potatoes.

Strictly adhere to the seasonal production schedule.

After listening to presentations from localities and units on production solutions and recommendations, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Van De affirmed: To organize and implement the 2026 Spring crop production with high results in terms of area, yield, and output, units and localities must develop specific solutions, promote concentrated commodity agricultural production, form specialized raw material areas applying high technology, create products with high productivity and good quality in the direction of green agriculture, circular agriculture, and reduce emissions.

At the same time, it is important to do a good job of investigating, detecting, estimating, and forecasting pests and diseases affecting crops; although water resources are not expected to be scarce, proactive measures should still be in place to cope with drought.

Local authorities also need to repair the canal systems, embankments, pumping stations, culverts, etc., that have been damaged by recent storms to ensure timely and effective irrigation for production; and develop plans for restructuring crop and livestock production on rice-growing land as soon as possible.

"

Given the specific characteristics of spring crop production in terms of weather and pests, relevant departments and localities must focus on directing and advising farmers to strictly adhere to the planting schedule and crop structure, avoiding situations like those of previous years, where losses frequently occurred in the area due to farmers not following the planting schedule set by the agricultural sector.

Comrade Nguyen Van De, Member of the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee

On this occasion, ThaiBinh Seed Group Joint Stock Company donated 10 tons of TBR225 seeds and 1 ton of new rice varieties with good resistance to blast and bacterial leaf blight, high yield potential, and suitable growth period to Nghe An province for farmers to test and put into production.
