According to Dr. Dang Anh Duong - Head of the Department of Intensive Care Surgery, National Children's Hospital, in just the past 2 weeks, the hospital has continuously received cases of children with multiple injuries requiring hospitalization, many of whom are in extremely critical condition. Notably, most of the children had accidents in situations such as traffic accidents, falls due to climbing or doors falling on them...
A typical example is a 9-year-old boy who was admitted to the hospital in critical condition after being hit by a car while riding on the back of a motorbike. His entire right leg was crushed, his right pelvis was broken, and he had soft tissue injuries. When he was admitted to the hospital, he was in a state of multiple injuries, respiratory failure, and circulatory failure.
The child underwent emergency surgery immediately after being admitted to the hospital and has overcome the critical stage. However, due to the severity of the injury, the doctors were forced to amputate his right leg. He is currently being closely monitored and receiving intensive care at the Department of Surgical Intensive Care.

Another accident happened to a 15-year-old boy when he climbed a tree to pick lychees and unfortunately slipped and fell, causing serious injuries. He was hospitalized with a torn perineum, rectum and urethra, and had to undergo emergency surgery.
Or the case of a 7-year-old boy who was hit by a falling iron gate, resulting in a fractured skull, a fractured skull base, a brain hemorrhage, and cerebral edema and a deep coma due to multiple injuries. Although the doctor is still actively resuscitating the child, the prognosis is very serious.
Some rare situations due to injuries also occurred this summer, such as the case of a 9-year-old boy who went fishing with a bow with his relatives and was unfortunately shot in the shoulder, causing difficulty breathing due to pneumothorax and subcutaneous emphysema. There was also a case of a child falling while riding a bicycle and being hospitalized in critical condition with grade III liver trauma and bile leakage in the abdomen, requiring emergency surgery to treat it. Or the case of a 19-month-old patient who was bitten on the hand and face by a monkey raised by a neighbor when he came over to play.
Or the 11-month-old baby fell from the walker falling from the house into the yard; or the case of the baby suffering a traumatic brain injury, skull fracture, and subarachnoid hemorrhage due to falling 2 meters from a stilt house.
Doctors say the main cause of injuries in children during the summer is because children are off school and play at home without supervision from their families and schools. They are hyperactive and curious by nature but lack the knowledge and skills to protect themselves. Therefore, in everyday situations, children are still susceptible to accidents such as falling, burns, drowning, traffic accidents, dangerous climbing or collisions while playing outdoors, choking on foreign objects, accidentally drinking chemicals, etc.
In particular, summer is also the time when many tragic drowning incidents occur due to children going swimming in rivers and streams, or falling into ponds while playing... Lack of adult supervision leads to many children drowning.
To prevent accidents and injuries this summer, doctors at the National Children's Hospital recommend that parents increase supervision of their children in all daily activities, especially when they are swimming, playing outdoors or participating in traffic.
Children need to beeducated early on the skills to recognize danger, avoid climbing, and not play with sharp objects or toxic chemicals.
Living space must be absolutely safe, balconies and windows must have sturdy fences, stairs must have sturdy handrails. Absolutely do not let children climb to high places such as roofs, attics, balconies.
Families and schools should coordinate to educate children about life skills and integrate safety knowledge into summer learning activities.
In places where there are construction works, it is necessary to place warning signs and have appropriate shielding measures to prevent unfortunate accidents from occurring.
