The official opening of the DMT-MARINA inland waterway terminal, and the invitation to invest in luxury inland waterway transport, is a strong step by the local government to build a classy and sustainable riverside and coastal tourism ecosystem.
On June 27, the Chairman of the People's Committee of Son Tra District signed a decision to announce the operation of the DMT-MARINA inland waterway terminal, a type III passenger terminal located on the right bank of the Han River (An Hai Nam Ward, Son Tra District, Da Nang City). This is the first private marina in Da Nang City that allows receiving vehicles with a draft of no more than 1.10m, with a maximum capacity of 30 passengers.
According to the leader of Son Tra District People's Committee, along with Son Tra wharf, K20 wharf, Nguyen Van Troi wharf (temporarily replacing Han River wharf), the operation of DMT-MARINA marks a new step forward in the city's waterway infrastructure system serving tourism.
Along with the completion of the wharf, the Department of Construction of Da Nang City has just announced an invitation for investors to participate in investing in high-class, modern inland waterway passenger transport vehicles, meeting the requirements of river tourism development in the coming period.
The invested means must be newly built ships, using high quality materials, ensuring technical safety standards and aesthetics, and capacity suitable for tourism activities. The investment proposal includes a detailed business plan, 3D perspective images, technical description, operational plan, mooring plan and agreement with the port management unit.
According to statistics, Da Nang currently owns nearly 64km of river frontage, stretching across the Han River, Cu De, Tuy Loan, Cam Le, Co Co... This is considered a great potential for developing waterway tourism. In 2024, the number of river tourists will reach nearly 1 million, an increase of nearly 14% over the previous year. However, according to experts, this number is still modest compared to the actual potential.
Mr. Cao Tri Dung, Chairman of the Da Nang Tourism Association, commented that current waterway tourism products are still not diverse, mainly around the Han River area. Meanwhile, potential routes such as to Da Nang Bay, to Quan The Am Pagoda or connecting Da Nang - Hoi An via Co Co River still face many barriers in terms of planning, procedures and river depth.
To solve this problem, the city has issued many long-term plans, including Plan No. 95/KH-UBND, Project on developing waterway tourism until 2030, vision to 2045, Plan on organizing recreational activities along rivers and seas from 2025. City leaders said that the goal by 2030, waterway tourists in Da Nang will account for 15-20% of total visitors, and increase to 25% by 2045.
