(NLDO) - The California state bar exam lasts 2 days. On the first day, candidates do 6 essays, on the second day, they answer 200 multiple choice questions within 6 hours.
This year, the most special gift that Pham Minh Chuyen (born in 1998) gave his family was to fulfill his dream of becoming an official lawyer in the US.
Minh Chuyen is a former student of Ho Chi Minh City University of Law. The 9X female student graduated with a bachelor's degree in law with honors and a bachelor's degree in business administration with honors.
After graduating, Chuyen worked at a Big 4 law firm. At the same time, she was also in charge of the legal department of a technology company owned by a Hong Kong (China) enterprise.
After 2 years of working, Minh Chuyen decided to go to the US to study for a master's degree in law, majoring in Business and International Economic Law at the University of Southern California.
Chuyen's happiest milestone is passing the California state bar exam, officially becoming a lawyer at the end of 2024. Currently, Chuyen is working at one of the oldest litigation law firms in the state.

The 9X girl owns a list of achievements that many people dream of.
Talking about her journey of studying and conquering America, Chuyen said that her family has a tradition of studying law. Both her father and mother are alumni of Ho Chi Minh City University of Law, which made her more strongly attached to her dream and received a lot of encouragement and support from her family.
"My mother is the one who guided and inspired me to pursue law, and also had the most influence on my career journey," Chuyen proudly said.
Minh Chuyen's academic achievements help her find many good job opportunities in the US.
Recalling the days of "studying hard" to pass the most important exam of her life, Minh Chuyen revealed that she spent at least 12 hours/day studying for 10 consecutive weeks. The female lawyer said that this is one of the toughest law exams in the US, with a passing rate of 53.8% of those taking the exam. Of which, California is always among the states with the lowest passing rate in the country.
In California, the exam lasts for two days. No materials are allowed. On the first day, candidates must complete 6 essays in 6.5 hours, and on the second day, they must answer 200 multiple-choice questions in 6 hours.
"The California Bar Examination is the final step to being licensed to practice law in the state of California, similar to the law practice internship test in Vietnam. In the US, the process of becoming a lawyer usually begins with completing a bachelor's degree, followed by taking the LSAT to enter law school. After graduating from law school, you will take this exam in the state where you want to practice," Chuyen explained.
Minh Chuyen believes that every journey begins with steps, each step always comes from dreams, the motivation that pushes us forward.
"Since I started high school, I have been passionate about watching American legal dramas like How to Get Away with Murder, Suits, Better Call Saul... There was something very compelling and attractive to me. Then I started to think more seriously and realized that I love reading and writing. I also love debating to solve problems" - The girl shared.
From personal experience and working experience in Vietnam and the US, Chuyen believes that passion alone is not enough, the deciding factor is the ability to focus on the set goals of the job.
Minh Chuyen passed the difficult bar exam. This is the most special Tet gift she gave to her family on the occasion of the New Year.
"Although the era of artificial intelligence is developing rapidly, in the legal industry, writing skills are one of the most important factors. Anyone can write, but writing concisely, with enough ideas, easy to understand and suitable for the reader is a skill that needs to be practiced. I always try to improve my writing skills" - Chuyen confided.
Although she achieved her first "KPI" in the US, she has never forgotten her days studying in Vietnam. For Chuyen, the 5 years of studying at school was an opportunity to cultivate the best knowledge and soft skills, which served as a "launching pad" for her development abroad.
