The WHO statement said: “The risk to public health has been reassessed based on the latest available information and the global risk remains low.”

The statement added: “While new cases may still occur among passengers and crew members who were exposed before containment measures were implemented, the risk of further transmission is expected to decrease after they disembark and control measures are put in place.”

According to officials, the MV Hondius is expected to dock in Rotterdam, Netherlands, between 10:00 AM (3:00 PM Hanoi time) and midday on May 18th, before disembarking the remaining 27 people on board, including 25 crew members and 2 medical personnel.

The ship, operated by the Dutch company Oceanwide Expeditions, has become the focus of attention after three passengers died from the Hanta virus – a rare virus for which there is currently no vaccine or specific treatment.
