WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus warned that the ongoing conflict is making it difficult to contain and control the disease.
According to the WHO, the Democratic Republic of Congo currently has over 900 suspected cases of Ebola with more than 220 deaths. The prolonged conflict has also increased the wave of displacement, overwhelming refugee camps and disrupting medical corridors crucial for combating the outbreak.
In related developments, the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) said the international community has pledged nearly $500 million to support affected and high-risk countries in strengthening their disease response capabilities.
