Craft Workshop - Weekend Rendezvous

On weekends, instead of spending time on phones or familiar forms of entertainment, many young people choose to attend workshops – hands-on craft experiences where they can make bracelets, scented candles, paint figurines, or decorate mirrors. These small but colorful experiential spaces are gradually becoming a popular weekend hangout for young people.

When young people find weekend fun

At a workshop in Vinh Yen ward, many young people were engrossed in painting statues, stringing beads for bracelets, or meticulously decorating small mirrors. The workshop space became lively with conversations, laughter, and excitement as each person completed their own product. Each item had its own unique color, reflecting the personality and creativity of the creator.

Craft workshops are becoming a popular weekend hangout for young people.

Seeking out workshops as a way to relax after stressful school hours, Dinh Thi Thu Phuong, a student at Lien Bao Secondary School, shared: “Instead of scrolling on my phone, I often go to workshops with my friends on weekends to paint or make bracelets. When focusing on the small details, I feel more relaxed and reduce the pressure of studying. Although the products are not perfect, I am very happy because they are items I made myself.”

Also choosing workshops as a weekend activity, Nguyen Thi Thanh Huyen, a student from Nguyen Viet Xuan High School, shared: “I participated in the workshop because I wanted to reduce my phone usage time. I found it very interesting to create items with my own unique touch. These activities also help me develop patience and concentration.”

Not only attracting young people, the workshop has also become a popular destination for many parents to bring their children to experience on weekends. Brought to the statue painting session by her grandfather, little Nguyen Mai Vy was delighted to be able to mix colors, paint, and complete her artwork for the first time according to her own preferences. "I feel very happy because I can freely color and play with my friends."

Little Nguyen Mai Vy enjoyed the experience of painting plaster figurines with her grandfather at a weekend craft workshop in Vinh Yen ward.

Not only does it bring joy to young children, but the experiential workshop model is also positively evaluated by many parents in the context of the current shortage of playgrounds for children. Mr. Nguyen Van Luong, from Vinh Phuc ward, said: "Currently, playgrounds and activity spaces for children are quite lacking, especially during summer vacation. Many children, when not in school, often stay at home watching phones, TV, or spending time with their grandparents and parents. Therefore, practical experiential models like the statue painting workshop not only provide children with more places to play but also create opportunities to train their concentration, patience, and creativity. I feel that the space here is very meaningful; the children learn the basics of painting and get to create their own favorite products. This is a great model, helping children to have fun, learn, and reduce their dependence on electronic devices."

It's not just a relaxing activity.

Not only are craft workshops appealing to young people because of their novelty, but they are also becoming increasingly diverse in terms of experiential activities such as making bracelets, scented candles, painting statues, or decorating mirrors. For a cost ranging from about 35,000 to 100,000 VND, participants can choose their own materials and colors and create personalized items. Even without exceptional crafting skills, handmade activities offer a relaxing experience, helping many young people relieve stress after school and work.

A wide variety of ingredients are available for participants to choose from for their products.

According to Mr. Dang Van Tung, the workshop organizer from Vinh Phuc ward, the workshop was initially held on a small scale within the store's premises, resulting in a limited number of participants. However, when expanded to outdoor spaces, the number of participants increased significantly, especially on weekends. On Saturdays and Sundays, the number of participants often doubles or triples compared to weekdays. The majority of participants are young people, students, and university students. Many attend the workshop not only for entertainment but also to have a space to meet friends and experience hands-on activities. What young people enjoy most is the freedom to create in their own style. Each product has a different color and decoration, so everyone feels it's a personal item. After completing their creations, many young people even take photos with their own creations to preserve memories and share them on social media.

The increasing number of craft workshops reflects the growing demand for hands-on experience among young people. More than just a weekend activity, handmade workshops have become a space for many young people to meet friends, find creative joy, and enjoy the feeling of making their own unique items.
