Mr. Gottfried Neumeister, the new CEO of KTM, confirmed the strategy of streamlining operations, including stopping the production of the X-Bow supercar, to reorient the brand's development to focus on motorcycles. KTM's decision to discontinue the X-Bow supercar is an important move after a turbulent year, marking a major shift under the control of the Bajaj Group (India).
In an interview with Cycle World, Neumeister said the restructuring will focus on simplicity and efficiency. The first step is to exit the entire bicycle business, which is expected to be completed by the end of 2025. Along with that, KTM will also end the production and distribution of the X-Bow supercar, a product once considered a symbol of the company's ambitions outside the motorcycle field. The new CEO frankly said that although the X-Bow demonstrated superior technical capabilities, it did not bring sustainable value to the core business. In the past year, only 36 X-Bows were sold, a number that was not convincing enough to continue investing.
In parallel with the sale of the X-Bow, KTM also announced the end of its distribution partnership with CFMoto, a Chinese partner that had helped the company penetrate many new markets. “We need to focus on our core brand, and ending the partnership was a mutual decision,” added Mr. Neumeister. With these changes, KTM is showing a clearer direction in the post-restructuring period. RideApart has reached out to KTM for further information on the future of the X-Bow, but the company has not yet provided an official response. The KTM X-Bow was first introduced in 2007 and began production at the Graz, Austria plant in 2008. The model is powered by a 2.0L or 2.5L TFSI turbocharged engine.
The price of KTM supercars ranges from 100,000 to 300,000 USD depending on the version. Despite receiving many compliments on design and performance, X-Bow could not create the expected revenue growth. With decisive steps from the new leadership, KTM is preparing to return to its rightful position as one of the world's leading sport motorcycle brands.
