The 2024 Copa America took place in the United States from June 20 to July 14 with 16 participating teams, coinciding with the EURO 2024 tournament in Europe (June 14 to July 14) in Germany with 24 teams reaching the finals.
Copa America 2024 will take place in the United States.
The 2024 Copa America is similar to the 2016 Copa America Centenario, also hosted by the United States, but expanded to 16 teams. Of these, 6 teams are from the CONCACAF region (North, Central America, and the Caribbean) and 10 teams are from South America (CONMBEOL).
Ten teams from the South American region, including Argentina with superstar Messi, the defending champion, are guaranteed to be present, alongside Brazil, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay, and Venezuela.
Meanwhile, the six CONCACAF teams participating in the 2024 Copa America will have to qualify. Currently, there are eight teams from this region: the United States (despite being the host nation, they still have to play in the qualifying rounds), Mexico, Canada, Costa Rica, Panama, Trinidad & Tobago, Honduras, and Jamaica.
These teams will compete in the quarter-finals of the CONCACAF Nations League next November. The winners of the four quarter-final matches will qualify for the 2024 Copa America, while the four losers will be paired up for two play-off matches to compete for the remaining two spots.
Messi and the Argentina national team won the Copa America in 2021.
According to journalist Gaston Edul of TyC Sports (Argentina), the draw for the 2024 Copa America will take place in Miami, USA, on December 7th. Sixteen teams will participate, divided into four groups of four teams each. The top two teams from each group will advance to the knockout stage, starting from the quarter-finals.
