On the afternoon of October 15th, news from the People's Committee of Chau Phu District, An Giang Province, stated that Mr. Phan Van Van, Vice Chairman of the District People's Committee, had requested the District Education and Training Department to take the lead and coordinate with the Department of Internal Affairs and the People's Committee of Binh Chanh Commune to verify a complaint from parents regarding a teacher at Binh Chanh Kindergarten allegedly hitting children in the classroom, in order to take appropriate action if any violations are found.
The incident occurred at Binh Chanh Kindergarten, Chau Phu District, An Giang Province.
Previously, on September 30th, Mr. THP (36 years old, residing in Binh Thanh Hamlet, Binh Chanh Commune, Chau Phu District) submitted a complaint to the District Education and Training Department, the People's Committee of Binh Chanh Commune, and the Board of Directors of Binh Chanh Kindergarten, accusing Ms. PTNH (a teacher at the school) of hitting his child TNNK (5 years old, Mr. P.'s child) at school. Mr. THP requested that the school's leadership and relevant authorities review the incident, extract camera footage to clarify the cause, and handle the matter according to the law.
In his complaint, Mr. THP stated that on September 23rd, his daughter refused to go to school. When he repeatedly asked her why, she said that her teacher had hit her and told her not to tell her parents.
Regarding the incident, Ms. Nguyen Ngoc Dam, Principal of Binh Chanh Kindergarten, has submitted a report to the Chau Phu District Department of Education and Training on the handling of Mr. THP's complaint.
Accordingly, the school established a team to verify the incident and met with the parents to confirm the contents of the complaint. The school's Board of Directors held a meeting and invited the teacher, Ms. PTNH, for a discussion. During the discussion, Ms. PTNH explained that: During daily activities, TNNK was uncooperative and often ran around playing with friends. Specifically during the poetry lesson, the child did not recite, so she used her hand to hit the child. Ms. H. argued that because she only used her hand to hit the child, it should not be considered abuse.
The verification team from Binh Chanh Kindergarten reviewed the classroom's security camera footage and found that teacher PTNH did hit TNNK on September 23rd, as stated in the parent's complaint. Furthermore, the verification team noted that teacher PTNH hit several other children in the class on September 23rd, 24th, and 26th, primarily using a stick and her hands to hit the children's heads and faces.
