Building a database and proposing solutions to manage valuable, endemic, endangered and rare marine animals and plants in marine reserves and Cat Ba National Park

The Department of Science and Technology (KH&CN) of Hai Phong city held a meeting of the Advisory Council for selection to implement the S&T task on the morning of August 22.

The objective of the project is to build a complete database on species diversity, distribution range, and resource status of endemic, endangered, and rare species of animals and plants with economic value, and to propose solutions for the management and sustainable use of marine biological resources in protected areas and Cat Ba National Park.

The research team plans to carry out the project within 12 months with the main contents such as: Collecting available information, data, and documents on biodiversity (BD) and related issues; analyzing, evaluating, and identifying information and data that need to be verified and updated; researching, collecting, and updating new data on the diversity of marine animals and plants of economic value, endemic, endangered, and species distribution in natural ecosystems; researching and building a database on marine animals and plants of economic value, endemic, endangered, precious, and rare on land in Cat Ba National Park and Bach Long Vi Marine Reserve based on the web-GIS platform (Geographic Information System (GIS) operating on the web platform); researching and building a set of documents guiding the exploitation and updating of the BD database for management agencies; Assess the current conservation status and propose solutions for sustainable management and use of valuable, endemic, endangered, and rare marine animals and plants in marine reserves and national parks in Hai Phong city.

The Advisory Council highly appreciated the novelty and feasibility of the topic, and the contents proposed were consistent with the city's policy. However, to complete the topic, the Steering Committee needs to edit and supplement the contents to clarify: adjust the task name as follows: "Research on building a database and proposing solutions to manage endemic, endangered, rare marine animals and plants of high economic value in Cat Ba National Park and marine protected areas in Hai Phong "; clearly define specific objectives; relevant legal documents; capacity profile of the presiding agency; related projects, topics, and successor projects; specify the unit taking over when the topic is completed.

The host unit agreed to accept and revise the tasks according to the comments of the Council members. Based on the revised and completed content, the Department of Science and Technology organized the appraisal and submitted it to the City People's Committee for consideration and approval for implementation./.
