Cultivating an awareness of respect for book copyrights.

A series of consecutive events—Vietnam Book and Reading Culture Day (April 21), World Book and Copyright Day (April 23), World Intellectual Property Day (April 26)—show that society is increasingly encouraging and honoring the value of books and reading culture, as well as respecting copyright. This is a global issue aimed at ensuring a sustainable development of society.

The more books and reading culture develop, the more important it is to affirm copyright. From real life to the online world, it's evident that plagiarism, counterfeit books, pirated books, and illegal printing still occur in some places and at some times. Copyright infringement affects a wide range of book genres, from textbooks and reference books to research books – which often appeal to a niche audience – all of which can be blatantly violated both online and in traditional print environments.

The harm caused by this situation is immense. These publications lack quality in both content and form, and there's even a possibility of inappropriate content being "inserted," "inserted," or "interspersed." The most directly and significantly affected are students, teachers, and other individuals who access knowledge daily. This situation also greatly impacts the reputation and efforts of authors and publishing houses who have diligently researched, worked, and created publications with valuable scientific information and knowledge for readers. Meanwhile, with simple manipulation, these individuals can easily steal the intellectual property and efforts of authors and the entire team involved.

Concerned about book development, copyright, and intellectual property, Vietnam has recently enacted several laws and regulations. These include the Publishing Law and the Law amending and supplementing certain articles of the Intellectual Property Law. These laws tighten regulations on copyright, establish rights quickly, and increase penalties for infringement, helping book owners protect their legitimate rights, prevent counterfeiting and copying; and significantly contribute to protecting book copyrights, especially in the digital environment. However, given the increasingly complex and sophisticated methods of intellectual property infringement, coupled with the explosion of the internet and social media, the issue of copyright and intellectual property remains a pressing concern.

To foster a reading culture, it is essential to place intellectual property rights and copyright at the center, contributing to shaping an increasingly fair and healthy publishing environment. This is not just a matter of strengthening inspections, supervision, and strict handling of copyright violations by state management agencies, but also a matter for the entire society, with the reader's awareness being paramount – the recipient of books. Saying no to counterfeit and pirated books, boycotting plagiarism… are simple and effective actions that anyone can take immediately. Only then can we contribute to pushing back against harmful publications, so that good books can spread further and become a sustainable foundation of knowledge in society.
