Son La Hope Fund has launched the "School Sanitation" project in Song Ma district, bringing the total number of projects funded by the entire project to 100.
The "School Hygiene" project was implemented at 11 schools in the communes of Chiềng Cang, Đứa Mòn, Huổi Một, Mường Hung, Nà Nghịu, Mường Lầm, etc., with the aim of improving hygiene conditions for children in Sông Mã district, Sơn La province.

In particular, the toilets in the Pá Nó area of Chiềng Cang Primary School are temporary structures made of wood and lack a septic system. The facility is located on a steep hillside, making it difficult for students to access, especially during rainy weather.
At the Na Loc branch of Dua Mon Primary School, 354 students only have one toilet to use. The structure is shoddily built with low walls and a corrugated iron roof. Mr. Tong Van Hoai, the principal of Dua Mon Primary School, said: "Due to its long use, the toilet at the Na Loc branch is severely dilapidated, constantly experiencing water and electrical problems. The corrugated iron roof is damaged, and the door is rusty. This greatly affects the overall hygiene of the school."
Mr. Song Ba Nenh, a parent at Na Loc school, shared: "The toilets are not up to standard, so the children don't want to use them. I hope there will be new, clean, and airy toilets so that the children will enjoy coming to school and study better."

According to the Department of Education and Training of Song Ma District, many school buildings in the district have not been built to standard, lacking auxiliary facilities, especially toilets for teachers and students at boarding schools.
"Due to the limited number of toilets and the large number of students, overcrowding occurs, posing a risk of diseases such as diarrhea, typhoid, cholera, and trachoma... affecting the health of students and the community, and negatively impacting education and childcare," a representative from the Song Ma District Department of Education and Training shared.
Following a survey in Song Ma district, the Hope Foundation is providing support for the construction of sanitation facilities at 11 schools in the area. The project commenced at the end of November and is expected to be completed within two months. "When the facilities are completed and put into use, they will contribute to improving the quality of care for students at these schools. Students and teachers will have a safe and secure environment for teaching, learning, and living, contributing to improving the quality of education in the schools in the following years," said the Song Ma District Department of Education and Training.

Previously, the "School Sanitation" project handed over and put into use 20 toilets in Van Ho district, Son La province, with funding from Sanofi Vietnam. This activity is part of the "Light of the School" program, aiming to provide more educational opportunities for disadvantaged children in remote areas. Launched in June 2022, the project has so far completed 89 toilets in Son La, Dien Bien , Ha Giang, and Thai Binh provinces, improving sanitation conditions for over 16,000 students and teachers in mountainous and disadvantaged districts.
In addition to the "School Hygiene" project, the Hope Foundation also funded the construction of 7 new schools with 19 classrooms, 2 administrative offices, 2 kitchens, and other facilities in Song Ma district, Son La province, providing a spacious, sturdy, and clean learning environment for thousands of students in the mountainous region.
With the desire to ensure that children in mountainous areas have the health and conditions necessary for their studies, the Hope Foundation continues to aim for the construction of 50 new toilets in Lai Chau, Yen Bai, and other areas in the near future.
