Cheap A-class cars are increasingly losing ground in Vietnam

All three A-segment models saw a sharp drop in sales last May. The sharpest drop was for the KIA Morning, which sold only four cars.

In contrast to the general excitement of the entire auto market, sales of the A-class car group were gloomy as all members witnessed a sharp decline. The sharpest decline belonged to KIA Morning with only 4 cars delivered to customers. This result decreased by 91.1% compared to the previous month, and was also the lowest sales of a KIA car model ever. The sharp decline made Morning the least sold car model in the market in May 2025.

The deepest discount belongs to KIA Morning, only 4 cars sold.

In the first 5 months, KIA Morning sales reached 168 units, only slightly higher than Wigo's 1-month result. The slow change is considered the main reason for Morning's continuous decline in recent times. Accordingly, the Morning models currently on sale on the market are models that have been updated since November 2020 and have not had any upgrades or updates in the past 5 years.

The second sharpest decrease was Toyota Wigo when the number of cars delivered to customers reached 162, down 45% compared to the result of 295 cars in the previous month. Accumulated for 5 months, Wigo car sales reached 962 cars, also ranked 2nd in the whole team.

Hyundai Grand i10 is the model with the smallest sales decrease in the A-class car group last month. Specifically, 280 i10s completed registration procedures in May 2025, down 13.8% month-on-month. This result is enough to help Hyundai Grand i10 maintain its "throne" in the segment.

In general, the A-class car segment in Vietnam is going through the most difficult period in many years. The number of 446 cars sold in May not only reflects a serious decline (nearly 33%) compared to the previous month, but also signals a worrying decline in the car line that was once considered the "popular means of transportation" of Vietnamese people.

The reason for this loss is the changing taste of Vietnamese consumers. Customers increasingly prefer small and medium-sized SUVs, multi-purpose vehicles, and even electric vehicles instead of traditional low-chassis vehicles.

This shift is driven by many factors. Car manufacturers are investing heavily in new segments, introducing more diverse models, creating more choices for customers. At the same time, fierce competition between brands has made car prices in the high-chassis, multi-purpose segments more attractive.
