The electric bicycle and electric motorbike market in Vinh Long is entering its peak season as the shopping demand of students increases. Not only interested in youthful designs or reasonable prices, consumers also pay attention to modern features such as: scanning QR codes to retrieve information, tracking batteries via applications, GPS positioning, smart anti-theft locks, etc. The combination of green transportation and digital technology is gradually changing the way consumers choose personal vehicles.

Shopping peak

Compared to last year, electric bicycle and electric scooter stores entered the peak season early from mid-July. The main customer group is still students and parents looking to buy vehicles for their children to go to school. Currently, consumers are not only interested in design or price but also pay attention to the technological features integrated into the vehicle.

At Khai Tri Trade Center (Long Chau Ward), saleswoman Vo Thi Thao Ngan said: “Purchasing power has increased by about 20% compared to previous months because now is the peak shopping season at the beginning of the school year. Customers mainly choose vehicles priced from 8-10 million VND/vehicle, suitable for daily travel needs. The frame also has a QR code integrated into it, when scanned, basic information such as frame number, user manual, warranty, etc. will appear, very convenient for users of all ages.”

The center also applies preferential policies such as buying an electric bike, getting a cooler, a 12-month engine warranty and a 6-month battery warranty. According to Ms. Ngan, electric bicycles are suitable for high school students, the elderly, and people traveling within a short distance, with a maximum speed of about 25 km/h and no driver's license required. This is also a different feature from electric motorbikes, which need to be registered and have a higher speed.

According to Ms. Ngan, consumers today are starting to pay attention to features such as anti-theft electric locking systems, energy-saving LED lights, charging ports, especially convenient features that can be operated via phone. The fact that electric bicycles are increasingly integrated with digital technology is a factor that helps increase trust, especially for parents buying bicycles for their children.

Current electric bicycle models are not only compact and affordable, but also meet the needs of information lookup and application connection on the phone.

In the electric motorbike segment, some big brands such as Vinfast , Yadea, Honda, Pega… have entered the market with models integrating smart technology. At Tan Thanh 3 motorbike system (Long Chau ward), Ms. Nguyen Thi Minh Chau - store manager introduced the Honda Icon-e electric motorbike model that was recently launched.

“The vehicle has a compact design, suitable for urban environments and integrates many utilities such as an LCD screen displaying speed, distance, battery status; diverse driving modes; the ability to connect to the My Honda+ application to check vehicle status, receive error warnings, and remind maintenance schedules. In addition, the vehicle also has a positioning feature, smart anti-theft lock and energy-saving LED lighting system,” said Ms. Chau.

According to Ms. Chau, after receiving information about the conversion from gasoline cars to electric cars in some major cities, many people in the province also came to consult this car model. However, the store also proactively explained that the official conversion roadmap has only been issued in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, while other provinces have not yet had specific regulations.

“Although purchasing power has increased, it has not created a clear “heat”. Many customers are still hesitant because the travel distance of electric vehicles in general is limited, the cost of renting or replacing batteries is higher than that of gasoline vehicles, while the system of public charging stations and repair services is not popular yet,” said Ms. Chau.

Looking to buy an electric motorbike for her daughter to go to school, Ms. My Duyen (Phuoc Hau ward) shared: “This type of vehicle saves on gas costs and is easy to use. If the vehicle has an app that connects to the phone, it would be even better, allowing you to monitor battery status, remind you to charge or replace the battery.”

Outstanding technology

Assessing the current electric vehicle market, Ms. Ma Thi Le Hang - representative of Duc Tan Trading and Service Company Limited (Long Chau Ward) said: "Currently, the market has more than 10 popular vehicle lines that customers are interested in, from mid-range electric bicycles to high-end electric motorbikes. Prices range from 8 million to more than 30 million VND depending on capacity and features". According to Ms. Hang, the technology factor is the highlight that consumers have chosen the most recently.

In addition to car models integrated with QR codes and control applications, users also pay attention to positioning capabilities; lightweight, durable lithium batteries; the ability to synchronize warranty data... "Even the elderly, initially hesitant about technology, but after being guided by staff on how to scan codes and look up information, they feel more secure and convenient" - Ms. Hang informed.

Some electric vehicle maintenance technicians at stores said that consumers should choose a vehicle that is suitable for their age and travel habits. For example, secondary school students and the elderly should use electric bicycles with pedals and moderate speed; while teenagers, students, and working people can choose electric motorbikes, but they need to pay attention to registering the license plate and properly storing the battery. It is recommended that you do not arbitrarily change the structure, modify the battery or increase the capacity because it can cause unsafety, short circuit and void the warranty.

From a simple means of transport, electric vehicles are gradually becoming a “mobile digital device” when integrating more and more smart technologies to serve users. The combination of green transportation and digital utilities not only contributes to environmental protection but also creates a more modern and safer consumer experience.

Although currently only Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City are implementing the roadmap to convert gasoline vehicles to electric vehicles, in the localities, the trend of using electric vehicles is clearly forming. It is not only a change in means of transport, but also a change in awareness in the way of living and moving, contributing to a greener and more modern future.
