At nearly 12 noon on June 2, a sleeper bus with Nghe An license plate traveling from Thanh Hoa to Hanoi suddenly caught fire when approaching Ha Linh 2 bridge (in Ha Linh town, Ha Trung district, Thanh Hoa province).
According to witnesses, the fire broke out from under the rear of the car and quickly spread. Upon discovering the incident, the driver immediately pulled the car over to the side of the road, opened the door and shouted for about 20 passengers to escape in time.
The hot, dry weather and strong winds caused the fire to flare up fiercely, engulfing the entire car in just over 10 minutes. Thick black smoke billowed hundreds of meters high, covering the entire area.
The Fire Prevention and Rescue Police Force of Thanh Hoa Province Police quickly mobilized vehicles and officers to the scene, trying to put out the fire. However, due to the prolonged fire, the passenger bus was burned down.
The fire did not cause any casualties, but many passengers’ belongings were burned. Traffic on the North-South Expressway, through Ha Linh town, was congested for nearly two hours before it was cleared and returned to normal at around 2 p.m.
The cause of the fire is being investigated by authorities.
