According to Carscoops, there have been 13 reported fires involving Jeep Wrangler 4xe and Grand Cherokee 4xe models recently. Notably, all of the vehicles involved were stationary, with many parked in garages. The incident has raised major safety concerns and forced Jeep to issue an emergency notice.
Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 4xe
The Wrangler 4xe and Grand Cherokee 4xe are two of the best-selling plug-in hybrids in the US, a group of vehicles favored by many customers for their fuel efficiency and powerful performance. However, recent fires have caused the Jeep brand to face a major safety crisis.
Faced with the situation, Jeep's parent company Stellantis immediately issued a red alert. They asked users not to park their vehicles near residential areas or construction sites to avoid the risk of fire or explosion. In particular, users were advised not to plug in their vehicles and instead use the Wrangler 4xe and Grand Cherokee 4xe models as conventional internal combustion engine vehicles.
This recall affects a total of 154,032 vehicles globally, including all Wrangler 4xe models manufactured from 2020 to 2024 and Grand Cherokee 4xe from 2022 to 2024. However, according to Jeep statistics, only about 5% of the total recalled vehicles were found to have defects.

In addition to the US market, this recall also affects 14,038 vehicles in Canada, 673 in Mexico and 25,502 in other countries around the world . However, Jeep has not yet provided detailed information about the specific cause of the fires. Representatives of the American car company said they are urgently investigating and promised to soon have measures to fix the error to ensure safety for users.
Fire-related incidents are not new to electric and hybrid vehicles. Many automakers around the world have faced similar incidents in the past, especially when battery technology and vehicle electrical systems are still in the development stage.
However, this incident once again raises big questions about the safety of PHEV and electric vehicles when major car manufacturers like Jeep have yet to find a complete solution.
