On the occasion of the 70th anniversary of Dien Bien Phu Victory (May 7, 1954 - May 7, 2024), the Truth National Political Publishing House published the book "Dien Bien Phu - Mission Impossible" by Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Viet Nghia, with the desire to bring the great values and significance of the glorious victory of the nation to a wide range of readers.
With a 14-part structure, the book's content is impressively and attractively presented, combined with profound analysis and interpretation, and the consistent idea that to explain the outcome of a war, one must understand how the war began.
The choice to build Dien Bien Phu as the strongest stronghold in the Navarre Plan affirmed the importance and desire of France to turn around the war situation in Indochina.
Thus, Dien Bien Phu became a "historic meeting place" in the confrontation between two opponents both eager for victory.
However, the French colonialists' mission, which was considered "feasible", soon became impossible, because their ambition to invade could not stop the power of patriotism and the determination to regain independence and peace of the Vietnamese people.
Written in an engaging and novel style, accessing diverse and rich domestic and foreign documents with an objective historical perspective, the book has contributed to clearly depicting the stature of victory of the Vietnamese army and people in the resistance war against the French colonialists, with the feat "famous in five continents, shaking the earth" - Dien Bien Phu.
The book is expected to be a valuable reference for all readers about the historic Dien Bien Phu Victory./.
