Upon completing their overseas employment contracts, they returned with stories about working and finding jobs abroad. The most talked-about aspect of their stories was the amount of money they had saved and how they spent it.

In his new house, still smelling of fresh cement, Mr. Ban Dun Choi, from Khuoi Luong village, Ba Be commune, recounted: "The house cost over 1 billion dong to build. It was all money from Ban Dun Minh, my son, and his wife, who are working in Taiwan. They sent the money back for me to build the house. After their work contracts there end, they won't have to worry about building a house when they return."

Having a new house means "settling down and establishing a livelihood." Moreover, living in a house that is protected from rain and wind provides peace of mind, ensures good health, and allows people to focus on their daily farming work and raising their children and grandchildren.

Speaking with us, Mr. Sung A Thang, from Ta Han village, Nam Cuong commune, proudly shared: "Thanks to participating in fixed-term labor contracts abroad, my family was able to save money to build a house. It's not just me; in Ta Han, there are nearly 20 workers currently working overseas. Some have returned and registered to go again."

The couple Ban Dun Minh and Sung A Thang are three of the more than 20,000 workers from Thai Nguyen province currently working abroad under fixed-term contracts.

In the last two years alone, the province has seen over 8,800 eligible workers go abroad for employment. This includes 5,100 in 2023, over 3,700 in 2024, and over 1,000 in the first six months of 2025, primarily to Japan, Taiwan, South Korea, Malaysia, China, and Saudi Arabia. Approximately 70% are unskilled laborers working in manufacturing, healthcare, agriculture , and construction.

It is estimated that with an average monthly income of 20 million VND per worker after deducting expenses, the 20,000 workers regularly employed abroad would send a total of 4,800 billion VND annually back to their families in Thai Nguyen. This is a significant financial resource capable of changing the lives of many families, especially poor and near-poor households. Therefore, the province considers sending workers abroad under fixed-term contracts as one of the important solutions in creating new jobs for workers.

Despite some limitations due to language barriers, Vietnamese workers, including those from Thai Nguyen, are highly valued by the overseas labor market for their competence, qualities, diligence, willingness to endure hardship, and open-minded attitude. This is one of the reasons why labor markets in many countries around the world always welcome workers and trainees from Thai Nguyen to work and study.

To meet the demands of the overseas labor market, in recent years, the relevant departments and agencies of the province have always focused on training and improving the quality of human resources.

Businesses involved in training and sending Vietnamese workers abroad under fixed-term contracts are actively innovating, focusing on training in professions that adapt to the rapid changes in the labor market. They are proactively creating breakthroughs in human resource development, especially high-quality, skilled human resources.

Mr. Nguyen Van Tuyen, from Dong Bam residential area, Linh Son ward, has worked in Taiwan twice. Each time he went for 3 years, and upon returning, he had a certain amount of capital, part of which he used to build a house, and the rest to invest in agricultural machinery for production.

Mr. Tuyen shared: "We understand that going abroad is for economic reasons, so most Vietnamese workers are diligent, thrifty, and strictly abide by the laws of the host country so that when we return, we will have capital to improve our family's economic situation."

By participating in the overseas labor market, workers themselves have become aware of the importance of self-improvement and skill development, making it easier for them to find job opportunities and earn better incomes. Organizations involved in sending workers abroad under fixed-term contracts also prioritize advising and guiding workers to choose and register for safe labor markets, suitable jobs, and stable wages.

Before completing the procedures for overseas employment, businesses organized orientation courses for workers, issuing certificates of completion. Through these courses, workers were equipped with basic knowledge about the cultural traditions and laws of the host country. Therefore, most workers from Thai Nguyen were not taken aback, quickly adapted to the job requirements, and were able to send their wages home to their families within a month of leaving the country.

Sharing with us, Master Bui Tien Dat, Head of the Market Information Department (Provincial Employment Service Center), said: To ensure the safety of workers participating in the overseas labor market, the Center proactively coordinates with all levels, sectors, and localities to strengthen the organization of propaganda and dissemination of relevant policies and laws, especially for workers who wish to go abroad for work. As a result, workers have improved their awareness and have a more complete understanding when participating in the overseas labor market.

Mr. Trieu Van Tai, from Pac Phai village, Cho Ra commune, recounted: "Our family's finances were previously difficult, and we had to borrow money to afford the expenses for my son and daughter-in-law to go to Taiwan to work. Now, they've just gone to Taiwan for the second time to work, earning 20 million VND each after deducting expenses. Together, they send back 40 million VND per month to their grandparents to raise our two grandchildren. Not only have we paid off all our debts, but we also have enough money to support our grandchildren's education and build a decent house."

Many people have proactively participated in the overseas labor market and achieved their desired results. Mr. Duong Quy Ngoc from Dan Tien commune is a prime example. After graduating with a Bachelor's degree in Animal Husbandry (Thai Nguyen University of Agriculture and Forestry), he worked for several companies in the province but his income was not as high as he hoped. While still hesitant, he was advised by staff from Hashi Vietnam International Cooperation Joint Stock Company in Thai Nguyen to participate in the High-Quality Engineer Program to work in Japan. In 2023, he met all the requirements and was able to travel to Japan to work, earning a salary of 50 million VND per month.

Most workers who return from working abroad have more stable and prosperous lives than before. However, the province's general policy of sending workers abroad under fixed-term contracts is not simply about poverty reduction, but aims to train and improve the quality of human resources. Workers go abroad to learn, gather information, accumulate experience, and create capital for starting businesses upon their return.

And those who returned told their relatives stories of working abroad with a professional work ethic, a high sense of responsibility, and tireless effort to create a better life in their own homeland.
