Advances in primary healthcare

Here, women received general check-ups from doctors and medical staff, advice on reproductive health care, guidance on preventing gynecological diseases, and screening for breast and cervical cancer.

Coming from Ba Lang village, Ms. Nguyen Thi Nga (born in 1977) happily shared that the doctors were very enthusiastic and attentive during the examinations. In particular, the program was held right at the Health Station, so people didn't have to travel far or wait long.

According to Ms. Khuc Thi Luyen, Head of the Population, Children, and Social Welfare Department at Thuong Phuc Commune Health Station, breast and cervical cancer are the leading causes of cancer-related deaths in women. In Vietnam, tens of thousands of new cases of breast and cervical cancer are diagnosed each year due to the lack of regular screening for women.

Therefore, the commune health station coordinated with partner units to bring in specialist doctors and nurses with full medical equipment and specialized medicines to organize examinations, consultations, and perform some techniques right at the health station locations.

The program also offers several free services such as IUD removal; intrauterine device insertion; blood sugar testing, diabetes screening; thyroid ultrasound, general abdominal ultrasound... helping people reduce their medical expenses.

By 2026, the commune's health station aims to provide health check-ups and breast and cervical cancer screenings for 100% of women in the commune.

For the purpose of sustainable development

According to Mr. Tran Ngoc Tuan, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Thuong Phuc commune, in implementing Resolution No. 72-NQ/TW dated September 9, 2025 of the Politburo "On some breakthrough solutions to strengthen the protection, care and improvement of people's health"; and Decision No. 841/QD-TTg dated July 14, 2023 of the Prime Minister on promulgating the roadmap for implementing Vietnam's sustainable development goals until 2030, Thuong Phuc commune has issued a plan for reproductive health care in the area for 2026.

In particular, the commune will also implement various measures to gradually improve the professional capacity, quality of service provision, and effectiveness of healthcare for mothers, newborns, and children at health facilities in the commune.

The goals for Thuong Phuc commune in 2026 are: to maintain the maternal mortality rate per 100,000 live births at ≤ 8; to maintain the neonatal mortality rate at ≤ 1.5‰; to maintain the infant mortality rate (under one year old) at ≤ 4‰; and to maintain the child mortality rate (under five years old) at ≤ 5‰.
