Yamal's type of injury is considered difficult to treat. |
Since making his first-team debut for Barca at the age of 15 in August 2023, Yamal quickly became a phenomenon in world football. In 2024, he played a major role in helping Spain win the European Championship and helped Barca win a domestic treble. At the age of 18, Yamal also finished second in the 2025 Ballon d'Or race, behind only Ousmane Dembele.
However, behind the glamour lies a simmering worry. In the recent El Clasico match, many noticed Yamal frequently grimacing in pain and moving awkwardly – signs of a persistent groin injury. Sources from the newspaper Sport reveal that the player suffers from pubalgia – a chronic condition causing pain in the pubic area, which is difficult to treat and almost impossible to completely cure.
Physiotherapist Lluis Puig explained: "This isn't a typical muscle injury, but rather a disorder in the area where multiple muscle groups intersect. It's impossible to say it will heal in a month or two. The player has to live with it and needs to focus on rehabilitation and recovery exercises to maintain their ability to play at a high level."
Renowned sports doctor Dr. Ripoll also warned: "Pubalgia is a very difficult injury to treat. It reduces a player's mobility and shooting ability by up to 50% - as was clearly seen in Yamal's performance against Real Madrid."
According to experts, the cause may stem from Yamal's body developing too rapidly during her teenage years, preventing her muscles and bones from adapting properly.
Lionel Messi also suffered similar injuries twice between 2000 and 2008. And now, the player considered his "successor" risks facing the same nightmare.
