A typical example is the initiative "Improving the operation of removing the tape marking on the tape roll at the Layout department of the raw material warehouse" by Ms. Nguyen Huyen Uyen, Junior Supervisor of the company. This is a seemingly simple step but it takes a lot of time for workers.

Before the improvement, each worker had to remove and take each roll of tape apart before cutting, find the tape end, peel and pull the tape end, cut, remove the tape end to the waste collection location, and then put each roll of tape into the bin. The sequence of operations took up to 7.2 hours/day.

By designing a mandrel that allows simultaneous operation with a pile of 20 tape rolls, combined with changing the layout of the trash bin and improving the direction of the tape roll, Ms. Uyen's initiative helps eliminate many redundant operations, reducing the operating time to 1/3 compared to before. The device includes a frame and a mandrel that are reused in the company's old, unused equipment, so there is no additional cost.

Ms. Nguyen Huyen Uyen's initiative helps the business benefit nearly 187 million VND/year.

Ms. Uyen said: "I think if workers reduce a few small operations every day, when multiplied across the entire factory, the whole year, it will be a large number in terms of cost and time." In the Hai Phong factory alone, the improvement brings a profit of more than 62 million VND/year; when applied in the 3 factories in Hai Phong, Hung Yen , and Quang Ninh, the figure increases to nearly 187 million VND/year.

The initiative also improves working conditions, reduces repetitive stress on workers, thereby improving morale and product quality.

Not stopping at manual operations, the creative labor movement at Yazaki also appeared in the field of high technology, with the initiative "Improving error reduction, equipment costs and increasing productivity for AC automatic cutting and stamping machines" by Mr. Tran Van Loc, an employee of the Production Preparation Department.

The AC automatic punching machine has a pre-designed software with the machine. The software has a fixed checking mechanism, when changing the punching conditions from one type of Tanshi to another, the software requires the operator to measure the width and height of the Tanshi foot. However, the software only allows data connection with a Type-A ruler, while the production process requires an additional Type-C ruler. The problem causes the operator to have to measure falsely and re-enter the data, which can easily lead to errors, causing mass errors and slowing down the production progress.

Mr. Loc has researched and written intermediate software so that the machine can receive signals from both types of measuring devices at the same time. At the same time, he replaced the standard Com RS232 connection wire with a cheaper but still effective USB port wire.

Mr. Loc informed that the solution helps reduce the measurement time from 45 seconds to 28 seconds/time; saving more than 1.1 billion VND/year, of which nearly 1 billion VND comes from replacing the connection device and more than 193 million VND from labor costs. More importantly, the improvement eliminates the risk of errors in production, ensuring the quality of output products.

Many solutions to promote creativity

In 2024, Yazaki Company's employees won 13 out of 79 creative labor certificates awarded by the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, an increase of 2 certificates compared to 2023, and became one of the leading units in Hai Phong city in the emulation movement for excellent workers and creative workers. On average, each year the company has 76 initiatives with a total value of billions of VND in profits (in 2024, it made a profit of more than 1.9 billion VND; in 2023, it made a profit of more than 2.7 billion VND). Many initiatives were awarded creative labor certificates by the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, such as: "Increasing actual production and reducing pipe cutting errors on the JC4385 machine at the CT block" by Ms. Nguyen Thi Tuyet; "Reducing C/H errors on the front legs at the AC95-5 block IP machine" by Mr. Nguyen Khac Trong...

Chairman of the Trade Union of Yazaki Hai Phong Vietnam Co., Ltd. Nguyen Quoc Viet said that cost reduction and productivity improvement are considered the “key to survival” of manufacturing enterprises. Therefore, the company’s Trade Union regularly organizes competitions and creative competitions between groups and departments to increase healthy competition. On the other hand, it is recommended that business leaders create an environment, equipment, and time for employees to test and implement creative ideas in actual production; provide financial or human resources support to test new solutions.

In particular, the company focuses on rewarding groups and individuals with effective innovative ideas and solutions or timely forms of encouragement. Accordingly, each group of authors is awarded an additional 400,000 - 3.5 million VND depending on the level of reward.
