The Government Office has just issued Document No. 8119/VPCP-KGVX conveying Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long's direction on handling feedback on nutrition and school meals.
Previously, the Government Electronic Information Portal issued Report No. 752/2025/TTDT dated August 15, 2025 on press information reflecting the issue of school meal standards and legalizing nutrition regulations.
Specifically, Vietnam still faces a double burden of nutrition: many rural and mountainous areas have high rates of malnutrition and stunting; while in urban areas, unbalanced diets, excess energy, micronutrient deficiencies and lack of exercise, make students' health not guaranteed. The average height of Vietnamese students is lower than the average of countries in the region. Therefore, it is recommended to improve institutions, consider investment in nutrition as investment in development, and build a strong enough legal framework and policies to improve the stature and physical strength of the young generation.
Regarding the above information, Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long assigned the Ministry of Health to study the press's reflections and proposals on school nutrition, legalize nutrition regulations in the process of organizing the implementation of the National Nutrition Strategy for the 2021-2030 period and vision to 2045 (approved by the Prime Minister in Decision No. 02/QD-TTg dated January 5, 2022) and deploy the development of the National School Nutrition Program under the direction of the Prime Minister in Official Dispatch No. 3504/VPCP-KGVX dated August 6, 2025 of the Government Office.
