Zinchenko publishes book revealing sensitive story, Arsenal fans in an uproar

In a new update to his book Believe , Oleksandr Zinchenko shares his personal experiences of the 2024/25 season - and has caused a wave of controversy among Arsenal fans.

According to The Athletic , early extracts show the Ukrainian left-back admitting that manager Mikel Arteta “no longer believes” in him, and expressing his feelings of being “left out” after spending most of the season on the bench. He described it as “the worst season of my career” on a personal level, while also mentioning Arsenal’s empty-handedness and the conflict in Ukraine.

Zinchenko heaped praise on Myles Lewis-Skelly – who has taken his starting spot – calling the 18-year-old “special” and “absolutely unbelievable”. He also mentioned stories of senior players banding together to keep young talent out of the side, but insisted he still backed Lewis-Skelly.

In reality, Zinchenko’s loss of starting place was due to repeated errors, while Lewis-Skelly provided more solidity both on the ball and in defence. Arteta’s decision became clear towards the end of the season, as Arsenal looked to reach the Champions League final.

Zinchenko also spoke frankly about the “privilege” of receiving a high salary despite not playing much – an admission that was considered wise. However, many readers still felt that he was a player with a lot of privilege and could not accept being surpassed by his younger teammates.
