According to The Athletic , early excerpts show the Ukrainian left-back admitting that manager Mikel Arteta “no longer believes in” him, and expressing his feelings of being “left out” after spending most of the season on the bench. He described it as “the worst season of my career” on a personal level, while also mentioning Arsenal’s empty-handedness and the conflict in Ukraine.

Zinchenko heaped praise on Myles Lewis-Skelly – who has taken his starting spot – calling the 18-year-old “special” and “absolutely unbelievable”. He also mentioned stories of senior players banding together to keep young talent out, but insisted he still backed Lewis-Skelly.

In fact, Zinchenko’s loss of starting place was due to repeated errors, while Lewis-Skelly provided more solidity both on the ball and in defence. Arteta’s decision became clear towards the end of the season, as Arsenal looked to reach the Champions League final.
