On June 27, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee held a meeting to honor coaches and athletes of the city who participated in the 12th Southeast Asian Para Games (ASEAN Para Games) as part of the Vietnamese Paralympic delegation.

The 12th ASEAN Para Games is the largest sports festival in Southeast Asia for people with disabilities. This event was held right after the 32nd Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) in Phnom Penh, Cambodia from June 3 to 9. After a week of exciting competition, the Vietnamese Paralympic delegation won 66 gold medals, 58 silver medals, and 77 bronze medals, completing the set performance target in addition to ranking 3rd overall.
Weightlifting won a total of 10 gold medals at the 12th ASEAN Para Games
Not only contributing nearly 55% of the strength of the Vietnamese TTNKT delegation, the athletes of Ho Chi Minh City also excellently contributed 57/66 gold medals (accounting for 86% of the gold medal achievements of the Vietnamese delegation), 27 silver medals and 44 bronze medals.
To support and encourage the HCM City coaches and athletes to participate and achieve high results at the 12th ASEAN Para Games, the City People's Committee and the Department of Culture and Sports organized a meeting and commendation at the REX Hotel.
Vice Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Duong Anh Duc expressed gratitude for the efforts of the coaches and athletes.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Duong Anh Duc - Vice Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee - emphasized: "I feel moved and grateful to the athletes who have made every effort to bring back remarkable achievements, beyond expectations. They have devoted themselves to bringing glory to Ho Chi Minh City sports".
Paralympic Association President Huynh Vinh Ai awarded Certificates of Merit to the weightlifting and swimming teams.
Representing the athletes, track and field champion Nguyen Thi Hai (3 gold medals at the 12th ASEAN Para Games), confided: "I am grateful and extremely happy, the feelings cannot be expressed in words when being here. As a disabled athlete, I feel proud of my achievements. The successes on the track and field will certainly be very useful for us in life. I thank the leaders of Ho Chi Minh City, the city's sports industry and the benefactors for creating conditions for us to have this wonderful journey."
Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Ho Chi Minh City Nguyen Nam Nhan presented a Certificate of Merit from the City People's Committee to the athlete.
Mr. Nguyen Nam Nhan - Deputy Director of the Department of Culture and Sports of Ho Chi Minh City - said: "People with disabilities do not need pity, they need an environment to express themselves, to rise up in life. Ho Chi Minh City athletes are truly the main force of the Vietnam Sports Administration when they only contribute 55% of the force but still bring home 86% of the number of gold medals.
Ho Chi Minh City will spend about 11 billion VND from the budget according to regulations for rewards, of which, each gold medal winner will be awarded 52 million VND for men and 58 million VND for women. Each silver medal winner will be awarded 29 million VND for men, 32 million VND for women and each bronze medal winner will be awarded 23 million VND for men and 25 million VND for women."

At the ceremony to honor coaches and athletes with outstanding achievements at the 12th Southeast Asian Games, PolyEducation Services Company Limited (Poly English System) sponsored 79 full English courses.
DatVietVAC Group Holdings JSC, Binh Dien Market Management and Business Company and a number of other benefactors also participated in the sponsorship. The total sponsorship amount including in-kind gifts was over VND 1,519 billion and cash was VND 920 million.
