According to the individual financial reports of 30 domestic commercial banks, the total corporate income tax that banks had to pay to the state budget in the first 6 months of the year was nearly 35,000 billion VND.
The total obligation to the state budget, including corporate income tax, value added tax, other taxes and fees of 28 commercial banks (except Vietcombank andSHB because these two banks did not disclose in the second quarter financial report) is nearly 43,000 billion VND.
The scope of this article also does not include the 4 mandatory transfer banks and SCB, because these banks are not subject to the obligation to publish quarterly financial reports.
Obligations to the state budget are carried out by enterprises in general and banks in particular through corporate income tax, value added tax and other taxes. Of which, corporate income tax accounts for the majority of the total tax payable to the state budget.
For example, according to ABBank's financial report, in the first 6 months of the year, the bank had to pay a total of more than 411.4 billion VND in obligations to the state budget, of which corporate income tax was 333.9 billion VND, equivalent to 81% of the total tax payable.
AtACB , the corporate income tax that the bank had to pay in the first 6 months of the year was 2,067 billion VND, accounting for 75% of the total state budget obligation of this bank.
Currently, the group of state-owned banks, including BIDV, VietinBank, Agribank , Vietcombank and MB, are still the banks with the largest contributions to the state budget.
BIDV's total contribution to the state budget in the first half of the year was VND5,612 billion, of which corporate income tax was VND3,000 billion.
VietinBank's total contribution to the state budget in the first 6 months of the year was VND 4,827 billion, of which corporate income tax was VND 3,085 billion.
Agribank's total contribution to the state budget in the first 6 months of the year was VND 3,889 billion, of which corporate income tax was VND 2,596 billion.
MB's total contribution to the state budget in the first 6 months of the year was 3,853 billion VND, of which corporate income tax was 2,888 billion VND.
Although Vietcombank did not explain in detail its obligations to the State budget, the report also stated that the corporate income tax the bank had to pay during the period was VND4,264 billion, the highest level among the 30 domestic commercial banks that have published financial reports. Therefore, Vietcombank is certainly the leading bank in the system in terms of obligations to the State budget.
For the private banking sector, Techcombank and VPBank lead in total contribution obligations to the state budget in general and corporate income tax in particular.
The total obligations to the state budget in the first 6 months of Techcombank and VPBank were VND 3,274 billion and VND 3,058 billion, respectively.
Of which, the corporate income tax that these two "giants" paid during the period was 2,139 billion VND and 2,102 billion VND respectively.
The group of private banks that contribute a lot to the state budget also includes ACB, Sacombank, HDBank, LPBank, SHB, TPBank, SeABank and VIB. These are banks with total obligations of all kinds to the state budget of VND1,000 billion or more. Of which, ACB, HDBank and Sacombank each contribute over VND2,000 billion.
If we only count corporate income tax, 13 banks joined the "trillion club" in the first 6 months of the year, including: Vietcombank, VietinBank, BIDV, MB, Agribank, Techcombank, VPBank, ACB, HDBank, SHB, Sacombank, LPBank and SeABank.
The Bank is obliged to pay corporate income tax at 20% of total taxable profits, as prescribed in Circular No. 78/2014/TT-BTC effective from August 2, 2014.
The tax authorities will examine the tax reports of banks. Since the application of tax laws and regulations to different types of transactions can be interpreted in different ways, the tax amounts presented in the financial statements may change according to the final decision of the tax authorities.
