According to Dr. Le Nhat Ky, “modern fairy tales” are new stories, created with the spirit, structure and magic of folk fairy tales but reflecting the life, soul and human values of modern people.

Starting from the beginning of the 20th century, this genre was pioneered by romantic and realistic writers such as Khai Hung, Ngoc Giao, Tham Tam. After 1945, many writers continued to inherit and innovate this genre, typically Pham Ho, Nguyen Huy Tuong, Tran Hoai Duong... and recently Nguyen Huong, Tran Duc Tien and young authors.

The set includes 60 works by 20 domestic authors.

In the flow of Vietnamese children's literature, modern fairy tales play the role of a bridge between tradition and modernity. The stories still carry the spirit of folk fairy tales with miracles, good-natured characters, and causal endings while opening up humanistic, egalitarian, and creative perspectives of people today.

Dr. Le Nhat Ky shared: “For a long time, modern Vietnamese fairy tales have been introduced sporadically in children's prose anthologies or by individual authors. With the anthology 'Modern Vietnamese Fairy Tales', readers for the first time have access to this genre in a systematic way, fully covering the developments, achievements and contributions of each author to the country's children's literature.”

The launch of the book series "Modern Vietnamese Fairy Tales" marks a valuable effort in preserving and renewing the national fairy tale heritage, bringing to today's readers humane stories imbued with Vietnamese identity.
