On the afternoon of October 13, the Forest Protection Department of Truong Son Commune (Quang Tri Province) coordinated with the People's Committee and Police of Truong Son Commune to hand over a rare Great Hornbill bird ( scientific name Buceros bicornis) to the Center for Rescue, Conservation and Development of Organisms of Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park for care and rescue.

According to Mr. Pham Hong Khanh, Head of the Forest Protection Department of Truong Son Commune, after a long period of heavy rain, a hornbill flew into the garden of Mr. Vo Xuan Quoc (Long Son village, Truong Son commune, Quang Tri province). Realizing that this was a rare species, Mr. Quoc voluntarily reported it to the authorities.

Through verification, the above individual is a Hornbill, belonging to group IB, an endangered, precious, and rare species according to Circular 27/2025/TT-BNNMT of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment . This is a large hornbill, weighing about 2kg, often living in old forests, playing an important role in the ecological balance of tropical forests.
On the same day, the forest rangers, People's Committee and Commune Police completed the handover procedures to the Rescue Center of Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park for care, health recovery and preparation for release into the natural environment for conservation purposes.
It is known that Truong Son commune is home to many other rare animals such as Siki gibbon, mountain goat, gaur, golden mountain turtle... Recently, Truong Son Forest Protection Department has increased propaganda and education on forest and wildlife protection laws, contributing to raising community awareness, preventing the illegal captivity and trading of wild animals.
