On the afternoon of April 9, Hanoi National University of Education held a conference with partner schools to deploy the SPT exam for admission to full-time university programs in 2025.
Sharing at the conference, Deputy Head of Training Department, Hanoi National University of Education, Dr. Tran Cuong said: Currently, Hanoi National University of Education has many different admission methods such as: Direct admission according to the Admission Regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training ; Direct admission according to the school's Admission Plan; Admission based on the results of the annual high school graduation exam; Admission based on the results of the independent SPT exam; Admission based on the results of aptitude exams and admission combining aptitude exams with high school graduation exams.
For the independent exam to assess capacity, Hanoi National University of Education has started organizing it since 2022. By 2023, 8 schools in the teacher training school block have used the results of this exam for admission.
2024 is the third year of the exam with an increasing number of candidates participating. The exam takes place at 3 locations: Hanoi National University of Education, Quy Nhon University and University of Education ( Da Nang University). A total of 11,542 candidates registered for the exam, with 27,308 candidates taking the exam in each subject.
Deputy Head of Training Department Tran Cuong also said that through investigation and evaluation of candidate quality after at least one year of study, Hanoi National University of Education found that the rate of students admitted by the SPT competency assessment test with good and excellent academic performance ranked second, only after the method of selecting students who won national and provincial prizes and from specialized schools nationwide.
Notably, up to now, 23 partner schools have officially announced the recognition of the results of the independent SPT exam for university admission in 2025. The number of candidates registering for the exam has also increased sharply compared to previous years.
Regarding the conversion plan for admission scores, Deputy Head of the Faculty of Mathematics and Information Technology, Hanoi National University of Education, Associate Professor, Dr. Ngo Hoang Long informed: Hanoi National University of Education will convert the SPT exam scores for schools to use for admission (on a 30-point scale) ensuring the principle of comparing the data of the corresponding combination of scores between the two SPT exams and high school graduation exams. The conversion will not change the ranking order according to the SPT exam scores among candidates; taking into account the correlation of the learning outcomes of students who were admitted by the two methods of SPT and high school graduation exams in previous years.
After the conversion, the Admissions Council will announce the original score of each exam to the candidates and send both the original score and the converted score according to the subject group the candidates registered for to the partner schools. From there, the partner schools will use the converted score in the admission process according to other methods, in order from highest to lowest.
The Rector of Hanoi National University of Education, Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Duc Son said: Initially, the SPT exam was organized with the goal of selecting students with good input quality for the school. However, from the fact that the exam was implemented methodically, effectively and attracted more and more candidates to participate, we proactively invited other universities to use the exam results in enrollment to avoid wasting quality results for enrollment, contributing to reducing exam pressure for candidates.
At the conference, representatives of some partner schools using the results of the independent SPT exam for admission highly appreciated the quality and reliability of the exam. At the same time, they expressed their desire to participate more in the organization of the exam in the coming years. In addition, the training institutions also proposed that Hanoi National University of Education soon develop and complete the score table converted from the SPT exam scores to facilitate schools to use the results on the common system of the Ministry of Education and Training.
Speaking at the conference, Deputy Director of the Department of Quality Management (Ministry of Education and Training), Professor, Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Ha said: 2025 is the first year to organize the high school graduation exam according to the new 2018 General Education Program. During the preparation process, Hanoi National University of Education has made many contributions to the Ministry of Education and Training, especially in enrollment.
The school's lecturers are the core force, participating in consulting on the first steps of the 2025 graduation exam plan, advising on the structure and format of the high school graduation exam. At the same time, they give ideas on converting scores between admission methods to ensure fairness for candidates.
Deputy Director of Quality Management Department Nguyen Ngoc Ha commented: Hanoi National University of Education has a core team of experts, so the organization of the SPT exam and the construction of the test bank are carried out methodically, closely following the 2018 General Education Program. Thanks to that, students across the country can rest assured when participating in the SPT exam without having to review separately, just need to closely follow the requirements to achieve in the program.
Organizing exams by subject also helps candidates more conveniently. Regarding the conversion of equivalent scores from the competency assessment exam to serve admission, the Ministry of Education and Training will soon issue a guiding document so that schools have a basis to build a suitable conversion method.
The independent exam to assess the capacity of Hanoi National University of Education in 2025 will be held on May 17 and 18, with 8 subjects: Literature, English, History, Geography, Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics.
This year, the exam will be held at four locations: Hanoi National University of Education, Vinh University, Quy Nhon University and the University of Education (Da Nang University). Candidates can register for the exam from March 15 to April 15, 2025.
Before registering, candidates need to carefully study the admission plans of universities that recognize and use the SPT exam results for admission, from there, consider choosing 2 to 6 suitable subjects to register for the exam. Note that each exam session, candidates can only register for a maximum of one exam. It is expected that the exam scores will be announced by Hanoi National University of Education before June 15, 2025.
