Prior to departing (May 28th) for the 2026 Southeast Asian U19 Championship, head coach Yutaka Ikeuchi narrowed down the squad to 25 players. According to the plan, the coaching staff will continue to evaluate and finalize the official 23-player roster one day before the opening match of the tournament.
Speaking before departure, head coach Yutaka Ikeuchi admitted that the team's preparation process was not easy, affected by the domestic league schedule as well as the high school graduation exam schedule for the group of players born in 2008. This is quite regrettable that the team could not have its strongest squad as expected for this tournament.

However, the Japanese coach highly praised the clubs and the players' efforts. He also emphasized the team's determination in the face of the upcoming challenges: "My coaching staff and I have prepared very carefully for the Vietnam U19 team to approach the Southeast Asian tournament with a determined and never-give-up spirit. No matter how difficult it is, the whole team will overcome it together."
At the 2026 Southeast Asian U19 Championship, the Vietnam U19 team is in Group A along with host Indonesia, Myanmar, and Timor Leste. According to the schedule, coach Yutaka Ikeuchi's team will play Timor Leste on June 1st, Myanmar on June 4th, and Indonesia on June 7th.
This tournament is of significant importance in the plan towards the 2027 AFC U20 Asian Qualifiers.
