One of the special highlights in Under the Lake is that director Tran Huu Tan and producer Hoang Quan set the challenge of having the actors play two roles.

To complete their roles and keep up with the production schedule, some of the actors, such as Karen Nguyen, Thanh Duy, and Mac Trung Kien, had to constantly switch their characters' psychology back and forth between the two versions throughout the filming process.
