Phu Dong Ninh Binh is one of four teams not licensed to participate in the 2025/26 Asian tournament.

The VFF Licensing Board unanimously granted licenses to 11 clubs meeting class A and B standards, including Nam Dinh, Hanoi, The Cong Viettel , Hong Linh Ha Tinh, Hanoi Police, Thanh Hoa, Hoang Anh Gia Lai, Binh Duong, Ho Chi Minh City, Quang Nam and Da Nang.

Meanwhile, four teams PVF-CAND, Phu Dong Ninh Binh, Song Lam Nghe An and Quy Nhon Binh Dinh were not granted licenses due to withdrawing their applications or not completing their documents on time.

Notably, Song Lam Nghe An also has the opportunity to participate in the AFC Champions League Two (Asia's second division) next season if they win the 2024/25 National Cup. The Nghe An club will face Binh Duong in the final on June 26.

According to the plan on May 23, 2025, the VFF Licensing Board will continue to meet to license the club to participate in the National Championship for the 2025/26 season.

This season, Nam Dinh is the Vietnamese club that has advanced the furthest in the Asian Cup. However, Van Toan and his teammates suffered a heavy 0-7 defeat against Sanfrecce Hiroshima in the round of 16 of the AFC Champions League Two 2024/25.

Meanwhile, the Hanoi Police Club entered the final of the ASEAN Club Championship, a tournament for clubs in Southeast Asia. In the first leg on the evening of May 14, the police team took the lead twice but was held to a 2-2 draw by Buriram United.
