Four valedictorians from Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology share their secrets to achieving "perfect" scores.

(Dan Tri Newspaper) - The top-scoring students entering Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology are not dry, bookish "nerds." They balance studying and playing, participating in training and recreational activities.

Each admissions season, the Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, Vietnam National University, welcomes promising top-performing students. In 2025, these students will not only stand out for their excellent achievements but also for their resilience in overcoming challenges and their aspiration to pursue knowledge.

Three of the four top-scoring students chose Electrical and Electronics Engineering, while the remaining one chose Computer Science .

Among them, Le Minh Khoi, a former student of Nguyen Trai High School ( Khanh Hoa ), attracted attention when he became the top scorer in the combined admission method.

Khoi achieved a score of 1,112 on the competency assessment with a perfect 300 in mathematics, and also scored 27.25 on the high school graduation exam.

"What truly makes me happy is the feeling that all the hard work and effort I've put in over the long journey has finally been recognized," Khoi expressed.

With seriousness and discipline, Khoi always creates a clear plan, focusing on consolidating theory, practicing with sample questions, and conducting thorough reviews.

Having been accepted into the Computer Science program, Khoi said his passion for technology stemmed from his 10th grade year. At that time, he began experimenting with programming and realized he could sit for hours in front of a computer without getting bored. From that enjoyment, Khoi decided to pursue this field of study.

Also deeply passionate about mathematics, Mai Quang Minh Tri, a mathematics-specialized student at Hue National High School, is not only the top scorer in the National University of Ho Chi Minh City's competency assessment exam but also the second-highest scorer in the university's overall admissions process.

After scoring 1047 points on his first attempt, Tri was determined to retake the exam. "There's still one more chance, another opportunity to improve, so why not try again?" Tri said.

That determination helped the male student achieve a score of 1122 in the competency assessment, with a perfect score in mathematics.

Speaking about the challenges and failures he has experienced, Tri believes that: "Only by striving, persevering, and learning from failure can one find the key to success on a new path."

That was also the motivation that helped Tri to be determined in his studies and strive for the goals he had set for himself.

However, Tri always made sure to allocate sufficient time for rest and relaxation. This was also the secret to helping him pass the exam with the results he had hoped for.

"I still try to play games, though not much, and if I have the chance, I'll go out with family and friends to create more beautiful memories for my final year of high school," Tri shared.

While Minh Khoi and Minh Tri excelled in the National Competency Assessment Exam, Lam Minh Huy, a former student of Luong Van Chanh High School for the Gifted (Dak Lak), impressed with his high school graduation exam results. With 29.75 points in the A00 subject group, Huy became the national runner-up and the top student in Dak Lak province.

Sharing his secret to success, Huy emphasized the principle of "slow and steady wins the race." Besides focusing on studying, he stressed the importance of allocating remaining time for rest and recreation.

Huy also applies the method of breaking down goals into smaller steps to both accomplish them effectively and avoid putting pressure on himself.

On his journey to acquire knowledge, Huy was never alone; he always had the support of his family and teachers. In his upcoming studies, he aims to win a scholarship and participate in scientific research to prepare himself for his pursuit of knowledge.

With a score of 29.75 in the A00 subject group, Vo Truong Gia Huan, the top scorer in Ca Mau, is also the second-highest scorer nationwide.

Huấn admitted that pressure was a motivator: “There was pressure, but it helped me focus more. When I received the results as the top student in the province and the second-highest student nationwide, I was both happy and grateful to my teachers and family for supporting me throughout the preparation period.”

Regarding his near-perfect score, Huấn said he wasn't too surprised by the result. He had undergone a long period of preparation, learning from experience through practicing with sample tests, so he felt quite confident entering the exam room.

Initially considered for a military academy, Huấn ultimately chose Electrical and Electronics Engineering. He hopes to participate in research and practical projects to nurture his long-term passion for this field.

Clear goals, a disciplined mindset, and perseverance in the face of challenges are the secrets to the impressive achievements of top-performing students.

At the opening ceremony of the 2025-2026 academic year, the Rector of Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology presented certificates of merit and 25 million VND from sponsors to the four top-scoring students.
