Do not turn on the temperature too high, do not turn it on and off suddenly and do not use the heater all day to avoid suffocation, difficulty breathing or electric leakage, burns.
In winter, people need to use devices such as heaters, hot water bottles, and heaters to keep warm. To avoid stuffiness, difficulty breathing, suffocation, or fire, electric leakage, and burns, experts recommend:
Do not set the temperature too high
Doctor Nguyen Thai Ngoc Minh, Department of Emergency Resuscitation, Le Huu Trac National Burn Hospital ( Hanoi ), said that when the weather is too cold, many people have the habit of setting the temperature to the highest level to warm up quickly, causing the surrounding air to lack moisture. Turning on a high-power heater will also cause people coming into the house from the cold outside to easily get "heat shock".
Users should set the temperature between 25 and 30 degrees Celsius. You should use additional humidifiers or place a bowl of water in the room to keep the air from drying out.
Do not place fans or heaters too close to people.
Heaters emit a lot of heat, which can dry out the skin and cause difficulty breathing. If they are knocked over, they can cause burns or explosions. Heaters and fan heaters often cause a feeling of stuffiness and difficulty breathing because they affect the circulation of oxygen in the room, especially when the doors are closed. Depending on the area of the room and the size of the machine, place the machine appropriately, avoiding close contact with children and the elderly.
In the bathroom, parents can use infrared heating lamps or two-way air conditioners instead of using other devices such as heating fans or heaters.
Place the machine in a safe, secure place
When placing fans and heaters, they must be placed in a safe, stable place with no exposed electricity. They should not be placed near the bed and should not be placed near flammable objects such as curtains, blinds, or furniture.
No sudden increase in temperature
Parents should not turn the machine on and off suddenly, it will affect their health and damage the machine. Users should increase the temperature slowly and decrease it slowly when preparing to turn it off to help the body adapt to the room temperature.
Do not use the fan all day
Doctors should not use the heater continuously, only use it for two to three hours, then stop for about 30 minutes and turn it back on. During this time, users can open the window slightly to help with ventilation, avoiding the feeling of stuffiness and difficulty breathing.
In case of an unfortunate thermal burn, Dr. Minh advises families to take 5 steps:
First, you should check the consciousness and breathing of the burned person. Remove the cause of the burn such as blankets, burnt clothes.
Next, cool the wound, about 20 minutes from the time of the burn and the temperature is 20 degrees Celsius. We should soak or leave the wound under clean running water.
Then, gently cover the wound with a clean bandage to avoid scratching or eroding the burn, reducing the risk of infection.
Finally, the family needs to take the patient to a medical facility, preferably one with a burn specialist, for further emergency care.
