Major anniversary events in 2025 and regulations on round and odd years

In Official Dispatch 3837/BTTTT-TTDN in 2024 guiding the development of the 2025 External Information Work Plan issued by the Ministry of Information and Communications, there are 5 major commemorative events in 2025, including:

(1) Celebrating the 95th anniversary of the Party's founding (February 3, 1930 - February 3, 2025);

(2) 135th birthday of beloved Uncle Ho (May 19, 1890 - May 19, 2025);

(3) 80th anniversary of the Vietnam People's Public Security tradition day (August 19, 1945 - August 19, 2025) and 20th anniversary of the National Day for National Security Protection (August 19, 2005 - August 19, 2025);

(4) Celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025);

(5) 80th anniversary of the founding of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, now the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (September 2, 1945 - September 2, 2025).

2025 is the 135th anniversary of the birth of beloved Uncle Ho (May 19, 1890 - May 19, 2025) (Illustration: ITN).

Regarding the major anniversary event in 2025, Clause 1, Article 3 of Decree 145/2013/ND-CP explains about round years and odd years as follows: "Round years", "odd years 5", "other years" are the anniversary years (times) of the events.

“Round year” is the year with the last digit being “0”; “Odd year 5” is the year with the last digit being “5”; “Other year” is the year with the remaining last digits.

Particularly in the case of organizing the Hung Kings' Commemoration Day, the determination of "round year", "odd year 5" and "other year" is calculated according to the solar calendar year.

Major national holidays

Major national holidays are stipulated in Article 4 of Decree 145/2013/ND-CP, including: Lunar New Year (January 1 of the lunar calendar); Founding Day of the Communist Party of Vietnam (February 3, 1930); Hung Kings' Commemoration Day (March 10 of the lunar calendar); Southern Liberation and National Reunification Day (April 30, 1975);

Dien Bien Phu Victory Day (May 7, 1954); President Ho Chi Minh's birthday (May 19, 1890); August Revolution Day (August 19, 1945) and National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (September 2, 1945).

Regarding major national holidays, activities to celebrate the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day are carried out according to the instructions in Article 8 of Decree 145/2013/ND-CP. Specifically as follows:

Odd-numbered years 5, other years: In Hanoi, Party and State leaders, former Party and State leaders, leaders of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, central departments, ministries, branches, and organizations and Hanoi city visit the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum and pay tribute to heroic martyrs at the Memorial. The Government Office presides over and coordinates with relevant agencies to organize these activities;

In Ho Chi Minh City, the City Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee and Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ho Chi Minh City visited the heroic martyrs at the Ho Chi Minh City Martyrs Cemetery;

Organize propaganda activities on central and local mass media.

Round year: Organizing a national celebration in Ho Chi Minh City, the Central Executive Committee of the Party, the National Assembly, the President, the Government, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front and Ho Chi Minh City solemnly organized the celebration;

Leaders of the Party and State (1 of 4 positions: General Secretary, President, Prime Minister, Chairman of the National Assembly), former leaders of the Party and State, leaders of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, central departments, ministries, branches, and organizations, representatives of overseas Vietnamese and representatives of the leaders of the City Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee and Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ho Chi Minh City attended the celebration;

Inviting foreign guests is considered and decided by competent authorities; Party and State leaders read commemorative speeches; Other activities are organized as for odd-numbered years 5 and other years.
