686 martial artists and athletes compete at the 2025 National Traditional Martial Arts Championship

On the evening of August 4, Gia Lai province held the opening ceremony of the 34th National Traditional Martial Arts Championship 2025 at Nguyen Tat Thanh Square, Quy Nhon coastal city.

The event was organized by the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Gia Lai province in coordination with the Vietnam Sports Administration and the Vietnam Traditional Martial Arts Federation.

It is known that the competition program of the 34th National Traditional Martial Arts Championship in 2025 will take place from August 2 to August 12 at Nguyen Tat Thanh Square.

At the tournament, there were 686 delegation heads, coaches, referees and athletes from 29 units, provinces and sectors across the country participating and competing.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Lich, Vice Chairwoman of Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee, said that the tournament is a big festival for traditional martial arts lovers nationwide.

This is an opportunity to honor the good traditional cultural values of the nation, promote the movement of health training. This is also an opportunity for athletes to exchange, learn, compete, improve their professional skills, contributing to the development of Vietnamese traditional martial arts.

According to Ms. Lich, Gia Lai province today with the martial arts land of Binh Dinh is the birthplace of martial arts techniques associated with the name of the cloth hero Quang Trung - Nguyen Hue and the Tay Son dynasty with its glorious feats.

On March 31, the Prime Minister agreed to send the dossier to the United Nations Educational , Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) for consideration and inclusion of the intangible cultural heritage "Binh Dinh Traditional Martial Arts" in the list of representative intangible cultural heritages of humanity.

According to the tournament organizers, in the boxing event, athletes compete in three age groups: 17-40, 41-50 and 51-60. Teams participate in the following competitions: regulation rights, self-selection rights and sparring. The sparring event applies to the 17-40 age group, including 27 weight categories: 15 male weight categories and 12 female weight categories. Athletes compete individually in a knockout format.

In this year's tournament, the host team from Gia Lai province has the largest participating force with 11 coaches and 67 athletes with the goal of maintaining the highest achievement of the entire team in the 2024 season.
