Breathless due to 40 degree heat on Hanoi walking street

Holding umbrellas, bringing fans and drinking water is still not enough for locals and tourists to escape the discomfort of the heat of more than 40 degrees Celsius at noon on Sunday (August 3).

At noon on August 3, Hanoi was hotter than 40 degrees Celsius. Many streets appeared to have mirages when viewed from a ground-level angle. The outdoor temperature was measured at times up to 43 degrees Celsius.

The scene of "street ninjas" is once again widespread. Sunscreen shirts, masks, gloves and sun umbrellas are essential items for women when facing the heat.

This year's heat wave has also seen the emergence of a number of new sun-protection masks, which are used by many women when going out.

At 3pm, the sun was still scorching hot. Many tourists strolling around Hoan Kiem Lake walking street had to use fans to shield themselves.

A baby sleeps in the arms of an adult walking in the midday sun.

A little boy just came out from the porch of a building across the road, his older brother ran after him carefully holding an umbrella.

Because the baby was not wearing a hat, the man carried the baby and ran into a shady area.

The store security guards went inside to sit instead of working at the front door like usual. "Only when you go outside at this time can you feel how hot the sun is," said Han, a tourist strolling along the walking street.

Today is the day when many shops selling iced mineral water are selling the best.

Tan's group of friends ran in different directions when they found shade on the street. Fatigue appeared on many young men's faces.

According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, today (August 3), the North (except Lai Chau and Dien Bien ), from Thanh Hoa to Hue and Khanh Hoa will have hot weather, with some places experiencing severe heat.

The heat wave lasts from 11am to 4pm. The highest temperature is commonly 36-38°C, some places over 38°C; the lowest humidity is 55-60%.

From August 5, the heat in the Northern region will gradually decrease. From the night of August 4 to 6, there will be scattered showers and thunderstorms, with some places experiencing heavy rain. In the mountainous and midland areas, there will be rain, moderate rain and thunderstorms, with some places experiencing heavy to very heavy rain.
