The visit not only strengthened relations between Vietnam and its traditional friends , with Brazil being an important partner, but also opened up opportunities for cooperation in several new areas.
The two countries also issued a joint statement outlining the direction for bilateral cooperation, aiming towards a new and appropriate framework for relations in the future.
This has raised expectations for a resurgence in relations between the two countries, which are becoming increasingly influential in the region and the world.
Brazil is a founding member of the BRICS group and a member of the Group of 20 largest economies (G20). It also holds the rotating presidency of the Southern Common Market (MERCOSUR), with which Vietnam is actively promoting negotiations for a free trade agreement.
Against this backdrop, Vietnam and Brazil have a great opportunity to bring bilateral trade turnover towards a more balanced direction, reaching US$10 billion by 2025 and US$15 billion by 2030.
The two sides are also continuing negotiations to sign several cooperation agreements in the fields of technical cooperation, diplomacy, investment, security, people-to-people exchanges, and cooperation between localities.
