Recently, four members of the band ABBA, Bjorn Ulvaeus, Anni-Frid Lyngstad, Agnetha Faltskog, and Benny Andersson, received the Royal VASA Order in their home country of Sweden from the King and Queen for "outstanding contributions to Swedish and international music ."

Also on this occasion, members Andersson and Ulvaeus appeared at the ABBA Arena in London on Thursday to celebrate the second anniversary of the ABBA Voyage show. This music program features 3D recreated images of the four members, giving the feeling that they are actually performing. Both also participated in a lengthy Q&A session for the 3,000 audience members at the event.
The special knighthood that the four members were honored with in Stockholm had not been awarded for half a century, only to be restored in 2022. The ABBA members were among 13 individuals/organizations honored.
The candidates were nominated by both the public and the Swedish government . The final honorees will be chosen by King Carl XVI Gustaf, who knighted ABBA on Friday along with Queen Silvia. In addition to the band, the two 2023 Nobel laureates in physics were also knighted on this occasion.
At a Q&A session in London celebrating the second anniversary of ABBA Voyage , Andersson and Ulvaeus didn't elaborate on future plans, although they enthusiastically embraced the idea of having the costumes perform at the Glastonbury music festival. Ulvaeus said, "Oh yes, I think that's a great idea," while Andersson indicated he would continue to participate if it happened.
In fact, there seems to be no prospect of any new reunions for the band after their Grammy-nominated reunion album, Voyage , three years prior. In a 2022 interview with Variety, Andersson firmly stated that the final chapter in ABBA's career had closed. He said, "Never say never, that's the reality. But there will be nothing more after this album. Voyage had a lot of success, but there won't be any more albums."
The group's image was recreated using 3D technology.
At a Q&A session in London this week, both members were quite pensive, reminiscing about the past. Andersson said: “It’s very, very difficult to put into words the feeling of having written these little songs and having them heard by millions. It’s incomprehensible, almost impossible.” Ulvaeus added: “I’ve seen the performance so many times and thought we looked great there. But I don’t know what really makes people want to listen to music that was made 50 years ago, 40 years ago, 30 years ago.”
Although not a topic of discussion at the London event, there has been talk in the US about a third Mamma Mia! film based on the band's songs. Producer Judy Craymer told Variety in October 2023 that it was inevitable. She said: “Universal Studios is very supportive of the project [...] Bjorn and Benny are always hard to convince, now they have ABBA Voyage and then they will want to take a break. But I believe it will happen.”
