Most recently, Agribank has issued a warning about fraudulent methods to steal bank accounts. Accordingly, bad actors are focusing on appropriating assets through impersonation, luring users to provide personal information and bank accounts.

One of the common tricks used by criminals is to take advantage of the user's bank account number (usually the same as the phone number) to repeatedly log in with the wrong password on the banking application or website.

The goal is to temporarily lock the account, then immediately call impersonating a bank employee, saying that they are supporting the account reopening. With a professional tone and information that “seems very real,” many people are caught off guard and believe it and follow the instructions.

Another trick that is also being spread is impersonating a police officer or a “Road Traffic Law consultant”, with the content of the announcement that from January 1, 2025, each citizen participating in traffic will be given 12 points and need to install a public service application to integrate points.

From here, they lure users to click on strange links or install fake applications, then ask for personal information, bank account passwords, OTP codes, ID card images, bank card photos, recent transaction history...

More dangerously, if users install software specified by criminals, mobile devices can be completely taken over, opening the way for money in the account to be withdrawn without warning.

Previously, Agribank also issued a warning about impersonating authorities; impersonating famous brands, tourism service businesses such as restaurants, hotel reservations, homestays on cyberspace; impersonating bank employees, customer service staff; impersonating transportation units, delivery people... to commit fraud.

Faced with increasingly sophisticated fraud, Agribank has issued a series of important recommendations to protect customers from unfortunate risks:

Absolutely do not click on strange links, do not download and install applications of unknown origin from third parties.

Be extremely cautious of calls claiming to be from the police, bank employees, or any organization asking you to provide personal information, account numbers, OTP codes, etc.

Limit sharing sensitive information such as phone numbers, account numbers, bank card images, ID cards... on social networks to avoid becoming a target of scammers.

If you need support related to banking products and services, please contact Agribank's official channel via: 1900 558818 or 024 3205 3205 for safe advice and support.

In case of detecting signs of fraud, people need to quickly report to the nearest police agency for timely intervention and handling.
