General Vo Nguyen Giap (1911-2013) was born in Le Thuy, Quang Binh. He participated in revolutionary activities since 1925. In 1940, he was admitted to the Indochinese Communist Party, now the Communist Party of Vietnam .
In 1944, leader Nguyen Ai Quoc assigned him the task of establishing the Vietnam Propaganda Liberation Army when he was only 33 years old.

Mrs. Nguyen Thi Dinh (1920 - 1992) was also known as Ut Dinh, Ba Dinh. She was the youngest child, the tenth in a family with a patriotic tradition in Luong Hoa commune, Giong Trom district, Ben Tre province.
At the age of 16, she participated in the movement for people's livelihood and democracy in her hometown. In 1938, Ms. Nguyen Thi Dinh was admitted to the Indochinese Communist Party. Later, during her revolutionary activities, she was arrested by the enemy and imprisoned in Ba Ra (present-day Binh Phuoc province). In 1943, she and a number of other comrades escaped from prison and returned to their hometown to continue their revolutionary activities.
In 1965, at the Southern Women's Congress, Ms. Nguyen Thi Dinh was elected President of the Southern Liberation Women's Union. Also in this year, she was assigned the task of Deputy Commander of the Southern Vietnam Liberation Army, participating in the Military Commission of the region, in charge of the guerrilla warfare movement.
On April 17, 1974, Ms. Nguyen Thi Dinh was officially promoted to the rank of Major General.
Ms. Dinh once held the position of Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Southern Liberation Army. After peace, she held many positions such as Vice President of the State Council and was also the first female Vice President of the State Council of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.
In gratitude for her merits and contributions, on August 30, 1995, she was posthumously awarded the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces by the State.
Mrs. Dinh was the only female major general during the war and became the first female general of the Vietnam People's Army.
